Took a bus trip today and got up to Mount Snow for the day. First time I've ever been to this place even though I've gone to Stratton numerous times. Got a new helmet and gosh it is making my bag pack tight.

Well, the mountain skied rather very well. Though, it got very cold when I got up to the top 1/3 of the mountain. The main runs skied well and were kept fresh by lessing skier traffic with everyone going home gradually between 1 and 2. Though, there were quite a few trails with thin cover and some of them were not marked that could use some more snow in some spots. Yardsale, a black diamond that was near the base, had some huge, but rather mostly firm bumps. Though, I found some good bumps at some of the other places, even with the thin cover. Never saw one of those lift loading conveyors before (used one at the Grand Summit Lift for the first time), but they look very neat (what a lazy man's way to load a lift but I could see it keeps things moving).

Overall, I thought it would be mad busy with the lift lines I saw through the webcams at Sunday River and Killington on 1/29, but it wasn't all that bad. The singles line for the express quads was no longer than about 5 minutes and the main lines were more in the line of 10 minutes. Otherwise, there wasn't lines elsewhere. Looks like Sunday was the day to pick this weekend, especially with how the weather has been. Not a bad place to ski but hopefully Peaks sends some lifts up to this mountain.

Yesterday was much less busy vs Saturday. On the weekends, it's a good idea to hit the fixed grip lifts. The Summit Local is slower than the Grand Summit...but I'd rather ski onto the lift and take the slow ride up vs. waiting in line for 20 minutes to ride up quicker. The North Face is a good place to duck over to when it's busy. Also, Bear Trap and Sunbrook are good hide outs.

They're looking to replace the Summit Local with a detachable 6 pack. Not sure on the exact timeframe...maybe next season, or the season after.

Sundance has been a life saver! Skied it all day Saturday.... This is the first time I have ever seen the lift run full all day. People were still waiting when the lines were closed at 3. Guess the secret is out...

Ego Alley was helpful too.

We were one of the families that headed out early Sunday (2ish) - Nitro lift went down for an extended time and the kids decided to bail rather than wait with lots of other people for the other lift over at Carinthia.

Bumps were definitely skiing firm. Though thin cover in spots, I found Ledges and Pat's Peak to be my runs of the day Sunday.

Glad you enjoyed your first time there!

When we headed over to Carinthia we saw that every chair on the Heavy Metal had people on it as we skied down the lift line. Kind of figured something must of happened to the Nitro Quad. This was at 2:30pm. Normally we would do a couple of runs on Carinthia and leave - since we park there. The Carinthia lot cleared out and we left also. They were doing something with the snow at the loading area. Does anybody know what happened to the lift?

By the way it was a great day of skiing on Sunday!

Sunday was a day to remember for me! I had a chance to ski with just my 10 yr old son and myself and was able to let him pick every trail...what a blast we had. Started with Big Dipper, then Beartrap, then over to Carinthia for a couple runs down Nitro-Lower Titanium, took a trip through the trees formerly known as Claimjumper (skied GREAT!) then into the Grommet park to work on some boxes and 180s (my son not me). We had good timing and were hanging out in Grommet when the lift fiasco happened. By the time we were ready to head back to the main face the line on Heavy Metal had reduced to a manageable size. Finished the day with Uncles, Overbrook, and Snowdance. Snow was good...a bit skied of in places, but not bad. Crowds were pretty light. Our only complaint was that Uncles had been groomed... my son was so mad: "that's the worst thing Mt. Snow's ever done!" he said "I'd rather have the trail closed than have it groomed."

Its a rare treat to get that much time to focus on your child and it was tremendous!:spread:

Bummer that the lift had issues over on Carinthia. That one is usually pretty reliable. The only time I've seen it have issues was during an ice weather event...and all the detatchables end up with problems.

Glad to hear that a lot of AZers were there and having a good time. That's just awesome.

Spent the weekend there...started off on Sundance area then to Carinthia.

Which I have to say I've been snowboarding since before parks and pipes and I really don't like what they've done over there. I guess it's cool because it keeps all the "badasses" over there and off the rest of the mountain but I really liked some of the terrain for cruising over there.

Anyway after a run of that crap we then went over to Canyon for a cruise down snowdance, back up Canyon quad to river run and then we basically spent the rest of the day on the North Face...Olympic, Olympic woods, fallen timbers, were all skiing/riding nicely as was chute, plummet, and the wall.

I was liking Plummet to The Wall, and Olympic to the lower half of Olympic woods probably my favorite run of the weekend.

Decided to do Ripcord :daffy::spread:at about 3pm...and subsequently needed a safety break thereafter.:-o

We closed out Saturday by ducking the ropes on South Bowl and burned it down after the racers were gone...snow skied real fast over there. My snowboard was making vibration noises I've never heard it make before.

Spent the day Sunday back on the NF. Probably should have tried the rest of the mtn but was worried that it would be the $h!t show that Saturday was.

All in all Snow's a fun place, I've been going there since Sunbrook had three trails, had a house there and have been there enough to be a tour guide.

My only gripes are the lack of variety (as so many runs ski similar to each other) and how quickly it crowds out...feel like they could use an upper mountain lift for the main face.

But watching Bruce Jacques is always entertaining. Any one know how long has he been playing his Saturday gig there? it feels like 20 years.
