Trip Report:
Second time out for the season. My regular ski partner and friend from UConn called me up last week and told me he wanted to get out the coming weekend. Needless to say I shared his desire. He was throwing a party at his house for the UConn sailing team on Friday night, of which I was an honorary member, so needless to say I attended (I would have anyway). We determined, since we both ski considerably weaker mid-hangover, that Sunday would be the day to go.
I got to bed early on Saturday night (wierd) after organizing my equipment and actually planning ahead and making a lunch. Early Sunday he arrived with his girlfriend and the three of us hopped in my Audi and headed off. It was snowing light to moderate the whole way up and by the time we got to Snow around 8:15, there was an inch on the ground. It snowe there and at home back in CT for most of the day, accumulating around 3 - 4 inches total with a small crust of ice at the end.
The day started out warming up the legs since I hadn't skied previous to this since the late October freak storm weekend at Killington. Snow only had 5 or 6 real trails open to speak of and most of the day was spent on the two blues off the main peak and a diamond that was open on the North Face.
My skis were sharp and bit the ice nicely. I stayed to the trail edges mostly and there were some small little bumps forming here and there. Good practice for me, I surmised. We skied the morning from 8:30 to around 11:30 and headed in for lunch. The lodge was pretty full at lunch time. There were some lift lines but nothing to dampen the day. We headed back out around 12:45 and stayed out until 15:45. For the ten or fifteen minutes that it iced was particularly annoying, especially on the goggles, but it didn't last long. It didn't affect conditions at all either.
By the end of the day we were all a little tired, but a good tired. Roads were still slick on the way home but we made it back without incident due to some spectacular driving skills. For early season conditions, I was happy with the day.
