Well, today felt very odd seeing as the closing day to my season was a powder day. It was a fantastic day at a mountain I used to hate, but I think I'm taking a liking to it now. Left home around 7:30 and had a few problems along the way, but eventually made it there around 10:30.
First run was down Plummet. Groomed in the middle, but nice powder on the sides on a nice rolling black. Fun trail.
Next run was down PDF to Little Steep. PDF was all natural and had some great powder. Little steep actually is quite steep and had some fun bumps.
Headed down Fallen Timbers and spent some time making some nice turns on the perfect packed powder on this trail. Amazingly fast snow and perfectly edgeable.
Spotted some nice snow on Chute, so I headed down there next. Wasn't disappointed... great powder that wasn't tracked much due to the short hike required to get to it from the Challenger Triple.
Speaking of Challenger, that was my next run and it was stellar. It was like being on Castlerock... incredibly narrow and twisty trail with a decent pitch and great powder. The lower part even had a cliff in the middle for a little air.
Headed back to the main face next run by taking Canyon to Standard. Canyon and Standard had bar-none the best packed powder I've ever skied in my life. I was just leaning way into my turns with no worries about slipping at all. APRIL? Took a quick lunch break at Tony's... GREAT pizza!
Headed back out for some main face runs. The ride up the quad was VERY cold... wind chills must've been down near 10 and I wasn't prepared for it. First run was down Exhibition which was all powder at the top, then groomed after the halfway point. Took a detour onto yardsale which had snow that was too dense and tracked out... not very fun.
Next run was Lodge, groomed top to bottom and the packed powder was as good as ever. Nothing like an 8,000+ foot long GS course.
Hit up the sweet South Bowl next. Great powder, especially on the right. Sundance had frankensnow the whole way which was a PITA, but the many cutbacks to Exhibition helped avoid that.
Next run was down Canyon to a reserved One More Time. Very few people had ducked the rope before me, so it was great. Only hit ground a few times towards the bottom, but everything else was flawless.
Took another run down South Bowl before heading over to a reserved Ripcord. The pwoder on this trail was knee deep at points and the run was just insane. I swear it was even steeper than Goat. The whales made it even steeper.
Hit Jaws next which was a bit like Challenger, just not as twisty. The last steep had some awesome bumps.
Took another run down One More Time followed by my final run of the year: South Bowl. Still hasn't sunk in yet that my season is over,which is a good thing I guess. Headed out at 2:45 and made great time, getting home ar 5:30.
Well, another chapter has been closed in the great book of skiing for me. 2006-2007 was difficult at first, but February, March, and early April all featured GREAT conditions. Hopefully we can get 2007-2008 to be all good instead of half and half like these past 2 years.
