Why is it not possible? It's not saying that 85 people own half the worlds wealth, but rather that 85 people own as much wealth as the poorest half of the worlds population combined.

From the article: The 85 richest people own about 0.7% of the world's wealth, which is the same as the bottom half of the population.

I see, yes I was confused reading that. But to me, that speaks far more to the horrors of communism, dictatorships, and the plight of the undeveloped world than it does to 85 billionaires.

In other words, I view it as illogical if you view it as "85 people in the world are just too rich" rather than seeing it as, "4.2 Billion people in the world are screwed by their government" etc..., which, now that I've glanced at the article, seems to be the tact their unfortunately taking.

As if BILLIONS of people in the world be better off NOT if they could get out from under Communism, oppressive dictatorships, and corrupt banana republic governments, but if only Sam Walmart's kids and Bill Gates were a little bit poorer.

Well said.

This whole "Rich get richer and the poor get poorer" thing is an easy phrase to keep you from thinking about the real cause of the problem, and blame someone else.

* If I work 12 hours a day, and you work 8, don't I keep getting richer than you?
* If I rent an apartment and take in 3 roommates, and you live alone, don't I keep getting richer than you?
* If I drive a 12 year old car and you drive a 3 year old car with payments to match, don't I keep getting richer than you?
* If I go to classes and read books on how to invest and you don't, don't I keep getting richer than you?
* If I don't bother with cable TV and a smart phone and you do, don't I keep getting richer than you?
* If I parent my kids to go to school, and get good grades, and make sure they do their homework, and you don't, won't my kids grow up to be richer than yours?

The US is an example of how many people benefit when you are allowed to keep the rewards of your work. Just because some people are overly selfish, or overly flagrant with their money, or overly irresponsible with their money, doesn't mean they don't have the right to earn or inherit that money.

Celebrate the victories, celebrate the success stories, and keep the door open to all who want to work hard. You are not entitled to a minimum standard of living. You are entitled to work hard, spend less than what you make, and put your savings towards your future.

Third world or under developed countries inflate stats. The 85 wealthy did a lot to get there much though ideas and commitment. The 4.2 billion that their wealth is equal to did not get there through ideas and commitment rather through circumstances that are in many cases out of their control and in some cases by their own making. I have met many people who have decided to live on the government dole because it was easy. In the same respect I met many people who have taken their businesses or careers very seriously and did really well. I would never consider punishing those who succeeded. This topic could be very explosive and for another thread!

Back to the EB-5, I do not have much of a problem with the idea. In many respects it is not different than having stimulus dollars go to cities (largest recipients). In addition, if the people immigrating can afford for toss $500K to get here - well there should not be much fear of them mooching off our country, on the contrary, they are possibly adding to more jobs which is not a bad thing is it?
