are these your only 2 choices? I do not recommend Mt Snow for a variety of reasons, but if you like the steeps, you'll be bored pretty fast, yes K has more terrain and varitey....any way you can push to go further north???

Was planning a trip to Killington when a transplanted chowd HIGHLY recommended a place called Mount Snow. Can't find much info on Mount Snow (outside of their site)- is there another monniker/name?
I am bringing a 10 & 7 year old who will be in board school. I enjoy skiing steep stuff (Snowbird, Jacjson Hole, etc.) - any insight or help is appreciated, as I will drive up 03/18...
From a frame of reference that includes Snowbird and Jackson Hole, Mt Snow is as flat as a pancake. There is one trail on the North Face that is steep for about 6 turns. That's it.
At the moment, the best skiing is much farther north in Vermont. Pick from Sugarbush, Mad River, Stowe, Smuggs, or Jay Peak. If that's too much driving for you, come join the masses at Killington but be warned that the steepest terrain like Ovation, Devil's Fiddle, and Vertigo did not receive a lick of snowmaking this year. There's still plenty of challenging terrain but it's typically very stale snowmaking base with a huge amount of traffic that's chewed up the 6 or 7 feet of natural snow we've received since early February. The skiing at Killington is the best it's been for a couple of years but it's still not up to typical March standards.
What kind of lodging are you looking for at MS, if you decide to go there? Or...K, for that matter?
killington, like sunday river is a skiers mtn. all that traversing is a pain in the a$$ on a board.
if you know how to get around you don't need to traverse at all really
i guess it depends on skill level/conditions as well, but I don't need to one foot anything, and i carry plenty of speed to even get through the likes of juggernaut.Agreed....if you are ever on the Snowshed Crossover, you have no idea of how to get around.
There are only a few trails at K that require poling and traversing, some of Frolic and Caper, the lower section of GN, Snowshed Crossover and Launchpad, and the Cross-country trails.
I agree on most things except the crowding thing. I have skied Snow damn near every weekend this season. Places that crowd: Summit Express Quad line and Deer run/Long John. Also, the Canyon Quad line. Othen than that, there are no issues worse than anywhere else. Actually, every weekend I comment going up a packed lift where all the skiers are when trails like South Bowl, Exhibition, Lodge, and Canyon are seemingly empty on the front. To each his own I guess.
well...maybe I'll keep heading north - does Smuggs offer steep stuff - heard it was also a good family place...
Killington was the right choice. No real issues with traversing/ navigation - not any different than a large western resort.
No lines at all - excellent snow on Cascade, Wildfire, Outer Limits, Double Dipp. on Tuesday.
Two more days...
