Areas Skied: Sunapee

Dates Skied: February 23, 2007

Conditions: Powder and packed powder

A terrific day at Sunapee today. I got there at 7:55 and immediately headed over to the Sunapee Express. My first run was Ridge which besides the wind was a great run. It certainlty showed Sunapee's great grooming. My next run was down Bonanza to Chipmunk. Again, it showed off fantastic grooming. The next run up Sunapee Express, I took Wingding all the way down. The trail was groomed and then had wind-blown powder in other sections. A little weird, but a great run all the same. Unfortunately, Williamson was not open. I have never been on that trail, but it looks great. A run down upper to lower blast-off was my next run. A great pitch and nice grooming. After, I headed over to the North Peak. A run down Goosebumps to Eggbeater was my run of the day. Goosebumps was steep and uncrowded and Eggbeater was groomed and had a nice, rolling terrain. One more run down Lynx, another down Upper to Lower Flying Goose (Upper had some great, natural moguls), and Upper to Lower Hansen Chase finished my runs on the North Peak. I then went over to Spruce and took the only trail with no terrain features, Elliot Slope which I recently found out got new snowmaking this year. The rest of my day, I skied all over, repeating the trails listed above.

Best groomed trail: Ridge
Best moguls: Upper Flying Goose
Best glade: Ridge Glade

Observations:
-A high speed quad in the Sunbowl would be very good. There are some great runs over there, but the nine minute ride is a little long.
-Dare Ya and Williamson seem like fun, classic new england trails. Any comments?
-I took a run over to South Peak Learning Area and saw a sign for the coming condos. I was a little suprised to see this knowing Sunapee is owned by the state.
-Does the Duckling Double ever open? If it wasn't open February break, would it ever open?
-Suprisingly uncrowded despite the holiday.

Has any here skied the Williamson trail at Sunapee? It looks so delicious on the map, and last week it was listed as open but when I got there last Sunday, it was closed. One of the staff told me that the trail didn't have snowmaking so there were bad patches. But it was just after a huge storm, and the trail couldn't be open???

Wow. Something is wrong...the glades can open but not Williamson?! And Ridge Glade was open? Cool. How was it? Sunapee is not known for their glades......

I ski Sunapee all the time.

As for the glades...all hardwoods not really steep but hawes and sunrsise are tons of fun.

Dare Ya and Double Dare Ya are very new trails to the mountain and they made them like clssic trails. These trails are sttep, fun, but dont seem to hold snow well. Also tons of stumps.

Williamson is AWSOME. So much fun. As for why they didn't open it Idk. They did open it a little later though. Me and my frinds ducked with 4 inches of fresh on like a really hardpack base and it was awsome. If 18 inches didnt open it up right away Idk what would!
