Conditions: Groomed & Packed Powder on trails,
Loose & Packed Powder in the Glades.
Today was the best I have ever seen Sunapee. The Trail & Glade conditions were perfect. The sun was with us all day (even though it hid behind some clouds occasionally).
The place felt empty. One of the mountain ambassadors informed me there were no Bus Tour's today and it seemed like mid-week. As usual the Sunbowl Terrain was nicer than the front side. The Sunbowl chair is slower compared to the Summit chair so mixing it up between the chairs felt important….
I skied the "Natural Snow Trails" (Elliott Slope, Williamson Trails, & Outer Ridge) first to warm up and then worked in Skyway & Bonanza with Chase Ledges before dropping into Sunrise Glades followed by the bumps on Lift Line then a quick pitch through Kartwheel a few times before lunch.
After a Summit lunch I skied Bonanza-Chipmunk and Blast-off before turning into the Summit Glades. This Summit Glade is largest on the mountain and it consisted of packed powder. Skiing through the Summit Glade popping out on to Blast-Off then down Beck Brook to Dare Ya became a new favorite…it is amazing what hidden treasures the mountains have when they get a lot of natural stuff…
I have skied those two Glades previously however, I had never skied Cataract Glades and was pleasantly surprised when I skied through there the first time. It has a consistently nice pitch with rolling sections of bumps in the open trees.
My last run down at 3:35 went through the Summit Glades down Chipmunk and traverse over to the Spruce Lodge for a cold IPA.
Not only was today the best I have ever seen Sunapee, it is the best ski day I’ve had at Sunapee.
They’re Mountain Talk is that the mountain may stay open until April 17. If we don’t much rain over the next few weeks, this place is going to be great right to closing.
