Date(s) Hiked: 10:30 - 12:30 AM 07/02/04
Trails(s) Hiked: Gulfside Trail to Clay Summit Trail
Total Distance: 4.0 miles 1200 vertical feet
Difficulty: Gulfside Trail (easy), Clay Trail (more difficult with some boulder hopping)
Conditions: Foggy with winds around 25 kts, Gusting to 35 kts, Starting Temp : 47 F, Finish Temp : 49 F
Special Required Equipment: None
Trip Report: A fun jaunt from the top of Mount Washington. Left the summit, and down the gulfside trail, over the cog tracks and down the edge of the great gulf. Still a little bit of snow above spaulding lake in the great gulf. Very fun to see. On to the intersection of Clay trail and great gulf where I took the clay trail. The first hundred yards or so were very tough going but after that it was much easier. Went very well after that. Over the first hump which many people think is the actual summit and then on to the actual summit, the second hump. Very fun hike in and out of the clouds and fog. Took some good pictures that I will post later.
