Wow that was a short line for MRG midweek let alone a weekend. My experience has also been 30 minutes or longer. The upside is the low uphill capacity preserves the snow.

It's worth it because Paradise and Fall Line as so sick

If not for that incredible terrain I would never go to MRG and wait in such long lines.

I also like riding up a lift with other people and having someone to talk to. I know a lot of people love the single chair, but I think it's the worst part about that ski area.

Yeah it helps preserve the snow by limiting amount of people taking runs..

oh well, it's a mixed bag. At least a run down Paradise will usually wear me out so that I feel like I could use a rest when I get to the bottom anyway.

I do like it tracked out but if you know Paradise at MRG it has some sections that are fairly delicate and if there is not enough snow and people poach it or if it gets overskiied without enough base it can wreck some of the super steep sections.

Last year because of someone poaching it early they had to delay opening it because it messed up the ice waterfall section.

As an MRG skier, I really appreciate the misconception that MRG always has long lines on the weekend and that it isn't worth skiing unless it is a mid-week powder day (when it has longer lines than non-powder day weekends).

But as a Shareholder, I'd like to encourage folks to challenge the notion that MRG always has long lines on the weekends. Sometimes yes. But often times no. Especially on weekends that don't feature big events, holidays, or recent dumpage.

Only speaking from my personal POV, the lift lines haven't been a reason I have yet to visit MRG. In my opinion, the ticket prices from week to weekend are so dramatic, I don't see the value in going on a Sat or Sun.

I was set to go last year, but the bountiful snowfall meant my wife's school break got cut out. This year we have enough vouchers elsewhere, so it's at the top of my list for next year.

The MRG weekend rate is still considerably less than the majority of other areas.

Bagged skiing for a 6:30 kickoff? Fools. it was a great weekend. sunday was really nice. we left the mtn at 2 and pulled into the driveway at home at 6:27. shoveled my way in and was on the couch before kickoff.

Well the Patriots game was a 3pm kickoff.

And for the hoards of Giants fans that lives in New York City or Central New Jersey, you cant make MRG in 4.5 hours, it's closer to 5.5 or 6 (plus if you have to get into the city the bridges and tunnel lines are about at their worst on Sunday evenings and all bets are off. Could add a solid 30 minutes to 1 hour on top of the drive time).

How was MRG otherwise? I was considering it this past weekend but given the lack of natural snowfall I'm trying to wait for a good hit to get up there, figured I'd save 2 hrs of driving
Bumps were a bit weird, scraped troughs but tops were still packed powder. Groomers were the best I've ever skied them. Trees between the trails were good packed powder without the scraped troughs. The base is excellent and will weather the current weather nicely. Another few inches and it's going to be great again.

What happened was there was erosion work done below the waterfall but the skiers that poached it (despite the ski report saying not to because of the erosion work) wrecked the work done so they needed to fix it and allow more time...

It isn't quite as good as it used to be but $45 weekend is still very cheap. Though $66 weekend is one of the cheapest for a 2k vert mountain (maybe only Saddleback being cheaper?). The pricing is definitely intended to drive mid-week visits. Though a Mad Card is a great way to ski MRG on the cheap during weekends.

Seriously; dude is madly in love with NACSKI. Lol

I'm in love with whoever offers the best bargain for the total cost of taking the trip for when I can ski. When ski and stays used to be in the $50/$60 ballpark, that was that. Last Friday, Facebook Friday at Stratton was that (and I drove myself). I budget a fixed amount of money to ski as much as I want, and my season is done when it's gone. When I make the big bucks, then I can afford to pay any walk up ticket rate. But if I do that now, the budget won't (obviously) last as long and I obviously won't get to ski as much as I want.

That being said, with a straight mind, MRG is a special place that offers a different experience. It's up to the individual skier if that differentiated experience is right for them.
