Mt. Abraham, VT

Date Hiked: 10/07

Trails(s) Hiked: Long Trail

Total Distance: 5.2 or so miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Conditions: Sunny, dry trails

Special Required Equipment: None

I was surprised how easy this hike was...the only challenging part was the last few hundred vertical feet before the summit. I started around 9 AM and had the trail pretty much to myself until around the shelter. On the return trip it was like a highway - amazingly crowded. Views were decent though not optimal at that time of the day yet.

Some day that you have a second car and plenty of time, try the whole ridge, up Abraham, over to Ellen, and beyond. This is part of the "Monroe Skyline" - to hike from Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap is a fantastic day.

Plus you get to cross the tops of the Sugarbush ski area, which is pretty neat in and of itself.

I did App Gap to Lincoln Peak about two months ago, so I was finishing up what I had started before. I would have hiked to Lincoln Peak this time, allowing me to say I've hiked the whole ridge, but time and impending crowds kept me away from it.

I've been from Lincoln Gap to Ellen & back on a less than clear day & want to get back at least to Abraham, maybe next year.
