Place to Ski: Mount Greylock Ski Club - Goodell Hollow - South Williamstown, MA

Conditions: fresh powder, tracked powder and some packed powder

Trip Report:

Thanks to the generosity of Kevin Thomas, who posted an offer on SJ that was too good to refuse, I became a member of the Mt. Greylock Ski Club this year. Seeing as my winter-time "on-hill" obligations have drawn to a close, I finally had a chance to take advantage of my membership and make some turns up in Goodell Hollow today and what a day it was!

As a new member and having never visited this "place to ski" I was unsure of what to expect on the drive up, especially when I hit the "point of no return until 2:30pm" on Roaring Brook road but, in hind sight, it was really a portal to the way skiing used to be which is something that I being 36 years old have yet to experience. This is my kind of place!

Notes:

Rope Tow #1 is one bad mamma-jamma! rumor is that it runs at the same speed as the 6-pack at Jiminy! I can say from experience that #1 is the longest and fastest rope in the East. Thanks to the friendly folks of the Greylock Ski Club for direction and instruction on the use of the Bousquet "tow gripper"..... One amazing device..

Enjoy!!

Good stuff! I remember reading this report when it was posted. I'm not sure why I didn't comment on it them. Looks like some fun terrain there. A unique experience I'd imagine.

Basically it's skiing the way it used to be.....rope tows, outhouses and a lodge heated by three wood stoves. Regardless, my one day of skiing up at the GSC helped to renew my hope and passion for the sport. Truly a wonderful experience!

BTW, a great place for families with young children.....

This was a good bump, don't remember reading this TR before, looks like a great outing! That fluffy snow is really uping the jones factor right now!

Hopefully sometime I can make it to the Greylock Ski Club!
