North Face is the place for you at Mount Snow! I don't think they are terribly tight, just my opinion though.

North Face is great. The glades aren't all that tight in comparison to glades normally, but rather tight compared to most of Bretton Woods. Totally doable, though.

At Mt. Snow go over to Carinthia and do Claimjumper. That's probably the easiest glade there. Good spacing, relatively tame pitch. Then head over to North Face for a steeper pitch.

You wont find the tree areas on the trail maps this year, though. Claimjumper is the woods to the skiers left of Nitro, best place to enter is on skiers right at the top Mineshaft. Another good area, also low angle, is what used to be labeled "The Boonies"...it is on skiers left as you ski down "One More Time". Steeper trees on the North Face are in the area that used be called "The Trials"...these are the woods on skiers left as you enter the trail called "Olympic"

There is also the trail to skier's right of the Ego Alley Chair house - used to be called Sap Tapper.

I skied all of the glades mentioned above on Monday & Tuesday this week -except the Trials (was skiing solo with 3 kids over at Carinthia). ALL were skiing real nice.

Enjoy!!

Please avoid Sap tapper that MommaBear mentioned, it's awfull, worthless, and I never spend good portions of my days at Mount Snow lapping it ;)

Why did they not include the glades on this years trail map? Liability? I'm pretty sure Mt. Snow was one of, if not the first place I headed into the woods purpose. Are the entrances to the tree runs marked at all? What is ski patrols stance on folks bushwacking around(if there are no clearly marked entrances)? Enquireing minds want to know!!!

There was a thread in the fall about that - do a search. It had to do with a philosophical change, all the woods are open all the time. Indeed they are not being patrolled. Then again, other resorts don't patrol all their glades either. I suspect there was an undercurrent agenda that involved liability.

Sorta like the Jay disclaimer? "Woods are neither open/closed/patrolled". Guess this policy varies by state?

Update for me
Never made it to the galdes

I skied with the gf on sat.. mostly blues all morning then tried the black diamond run , Olympic?
Took me forever to get down those bumps thought i could do the bumps, but I was horrible. ( i was pretty good doing bumps at bretton woods on "snake"
I stuck to blues from then on and "fallen timber"
I saw the glades off of "olympic" but felt unsure. after my trip down olympic

Sunday took a group lesson that turned out to be just me and my gf ( score!) but really didnt get anything out of the lesson other than to lean forward more. i was tyring to get inptu since i'm a self taught skier and know i don't lean forward enough

I've kind of lost a little sparkle out of mt Snow. for now. I use to love it and it's blue runs when i was just beginning, but now they're a little boring for me and the blacks with the bumps i cant seem to get a handle on.

My favorite trail "one more time" was open but real thin cover. I don't think I'll be going back for a while. i

What about the blacks without bumps? Or some of the lower angle trees?

It doesn't sound like you poked around enough to give the place a totally fair assessment. If the blues were too boring and the bumps too challenging, then it seems to me you should have concentrated your time on terrain that, in terms of ability level, is between the two....some of which was pointed out for you by Euler and MommaBear.

Also, it sounds like another lesson or two might be helpful for you. Tell the instructor you want to work on bumps and low angle trees...

aw crap.. i had everything all typed out and lost it...
Try again

I didnt hit the glades that anyone suggested.

Technique and confidence was shot after olympic. I couldnt do anything right. that challenging
i saw glades off of One More time but that was the second day and everything was getting scratched out. on the trails. ( wind and such) also saw the glades off Olympic but at that point i was already beat off the bumps.
I do need a lesson on the bumps and glades, agreed. for more technique

we tried north face and liked fallen timbers but right after that we tried Olympic with the bumps, again technique and confidence got shot after that. After that i didn't want to try another unknown black or such with those bumps and just hit all the blues i could find.

Sunday we didnt poke around as much..didnt hit sundance area ... Powder was getting scratched off and such and low lying clouds made it tough to read the snow on the upper half of the mtn so we ditched and went home aabout an hour after the lesson/ lunch

but no i still stand .. Mt snow i wont go back till i get better.... i'm in that in between right now

Hmm, or maybe you just need someone to point you in the right direction for some of the steeper/less boring blues and un-bumped blacks...I'm just getting to know the mountain myself (especially names of trails!) but there are folks on here who can do the same.

And of course, if its getting scratchy, always consider having your edges sharpened. IMO, makes a big difference.

Cheers!

There seems to be a general trend of resorts embracing and promoting glades. I find it funny that Mt. Snow is doing the opposite.

I don't think they're doing the opposite at all, actually quite the contrary. They have basically said all of the woods are open all of the time. You make the decision if they are OK to ski. Instead of having just a few areas named on the maps they now say ski wherever you'd like. This is an improvement over last year.

If its any consolation, my last trip up (that Mon/Tues MLK weekend) I had trouble on Olympic also. Its usually my favorite trail with very manageable bumps. But for some reason, Tuesday I couldn't ski it well to save my life! It just felt like there was no rhyme or reason and definitely no rhythm to it that day. And when the light goes flat, forget it.

Hope you'll give the mountain another chance. The Boonies (off of One More Time) can be a real blast - trees spread out enough to get the hang of skiiing around them. Great training ground.
