Date(s) Skied: 9 AM - 330 PM, Wednesday February 28th 2007
Resort or Ski Area: Mt Sunapeee
Conditions: 90% PP, some FRGR and loose granular. Blue skies, 30-35 degrees at the base all day. No wind. Perfect weather.
Trip Report:
Super awesome day at Sunapee. Got there in 1 hr 45 min from my father's office in Foxboro MA, with 45 min to go before the lifts even opened. We were 1 row back from the front of the lot. Two-for-one wednesday - even though it was school vacation week for many NH schools.
Never more than a 5 minute wait at the summit detachable quad. All groomed trails were quite fast and firm til the sun softened them up. The birch glades on the backside were skiable but not in great shape...but friday's snow should change that. Fresh tune on my new-to-me Fischer RX8s made it tough for me to do anything but let 'em run and rip on anything groomed.
We skied pretty much everything that was open off of the summit quad, the back side quad, and the triple near the competition center. Maybe 1 or 2 trails were closed. After ~27,500 vertical ft of skiing, my dad and his coworkers called it quits. I took one more for just under 29,000 vertical feet...my new single day record for this season.
I have not been to Sunapee since a very icy day back in january 1992. I was very impressed with the facilities, the easy drive to get there, the high speed quad, and the conditions in general.
