Trip Report:

My first day in NH in 3 years was obviously a tough one considering the weather in the past week. Arrived at the mountain around 10 and headed for the summit. Took Skyway Ledges to Skyway which were both very scraped and Skyway was showing large glare ice patches as well. Next run down Wingding proved to be similar.

Took Blastoff from the summit next run which was scraped on the first pitch but was decent in the stretch after that. The middle part with the turns had enormous death cookies and thick granular with scratchy patches. The bottom was actually real nice, just crowded with Toboggan Chute traffic.

Took an early lunch at 11:15, then made a great decision of heading to North Peak. Flying Goose and Lynx were open on the front and both were much better than the looney-bin on the summit. They were a bit scraped in the middle, but the sides were nice and a lack of bodies allowed you to ski the whole trail and find the good snow. Spent the better part of 2 hours lapping these 2 trails, short-turning the granular at the top and carving up the nice packed powder at the bottom. Also took a run down Eggbeater from the double when there was a period of a bunch of racers making the triple line a bit long. Other than that, it was ski on all day on the triple.

Finally around 1:30, I decided to give Cataract a try which was also nice due to the lack of people. As soon as you hit the Sundance merge, the conditions went south in a hurry thanks to all the Sunbowl traffic. Took Bonanza from the top which was quite scraped and crowded with morons who should've been on the Clippership. Some of the people up there were waaay over their heads. Chipmunk sounded like junk from the lift, so I took Beck Brook down to Lower Ridge which was actually nice but very crowded.

After another short break around 2, I took a brainless run down Ridge. The trail was scraped edge to edge with no grip what-so-ever and bodies scattered around like giant ants. The "steep" pitch was a complete free-for-all and I'd go as far as to say it was unsafe. Again, the bottom was nice.

Finished up the last hour with some North Peak laps which were still pretty nice, but slowly starting to get more scraped.

The good thing was I never had to wait in a line all day, but the 2 quads to the summit put way too many people up there, espeically considering the very low average skill level of the skiers up there today. Anyone going up there in the next couple of days would be wise to stick to North Peak.

I'll have a Wachusett report Friday... potentially powder.
