Steve (tele-dude first in line in the cog tracks pics) TR and pics.

OK, at BobT's request, here are a few pics from our trip to Oakes via the Cog to the summit, East Snowfields, and down MB.

Our party of 4 met Austin at the Cog base at 8am, where we geared up while a fox trotted leisurely by without so much as a sideways glance.

The skinning from the base was good, if not a little noisy.

At about 4700' the double fall-line made skinning dicey, so we resorted to booting up the rail. Austin, however, took his chances with the rain-crust, saying that booting the rail "scares the crap out of him."

We took a break overlooking our planned route of descent in the background.

Crystal clear, but no signs of softening yet.

Lunch at the summit station -- still no signs of softening....

....but, as soon as we dropped off the summit onto the east side out of the wind, things looked up. Here's Austin with the first turns of the day on East Snowfield corn.

From there we headed around to Oakes Gulf, feeling the gravitational pull of Tucks as we traversed by.

After several laps in Oakes, with Austin and West dropping into this chute, we headed out, leaving AF with BobT's group.

How long again is the hike up the Cog?

It took close to 3 hours Sunday since we took it slow and we couldn't walk on the track since they were icy and covered in snow. Once the tracks are dry I can do it in a little under 2 hours.

Send me a PM when you head up and I'll show you around.
