Just would like to tell everyone I skiid at Jay Peak in Vermont this Wednesday, January 7th, 2004. I made about 4 runs and went in the lodge for a few minutes, I normally separate my ski's, this time I didnt. Came out and they were gone! so werent my non-matching Rossi poles. These skis were skiid on about 4 times and had a gold Killington ski repair tag near the binding. I know I'll never see them again but I will always lock my ski's for the rest of my life! I sure miss em...........Please lock your equipment, unless of course you dont care....

That's what I said, even if it's just for a minute or two, lock them up! They WILL disappear! Separating them is NO good either...there are some crazies that get PO'ed with this and are taking the singles now too( for kicks I guess). It's better to LOCK them, no matter how new or old they are then to come out and find them gone and have to rent, get demos or quit for the rest of the trip.

All this talk lately about stolen skis is making me think twice about leaving my skis unattended as I've been doing... :-?

Bummer

I have felt your pain. We had a thread about this just a bit ago.. and the general consensus was "lock-em!".

Too bad, your home insurance might cover some of the loss.. check it anyway.

What you gonna' do for new boards?

Sorry to hear the bad news. It's a dispicable, rotten, low-down, no conscience creep that steals skis. Do they use them? Sell them? If they sell them are the buyers unaware or are they involved too? Makes me wonder about this. A couple, few years ago, a "snowbard theft ring" were busted at West Mountain. Organized ski/snowboard thieves! Scary. They are scum.

By the way, you did nothing wrong. We all SHOULD be able to leave our skis unlocked. Sadly, this is becoming ski history. My guess is that those who loose thier skis within minutes of leaving them were being watched.

Hopefully the thief will break their leg.

I've always said that if people would stop buying hot merchandise the market would disappear. People try to defend by saying how do you know if its stolen; thieves arn't going to bargin for a sale, they sell cheap for a quick sale, if someone is selling a new pair of skis or anything else for a price far below fair value, don't try to defend buying the stuff by using this defense. In my opion anyone buying hot merchandise is as guilty as the person that stole it, and thats they way the law also looks at it.

I make it a practice to lock my stuff, but I also look around before heading in to a lodge. More than once I've walked up to people who don't look right, street clothes no ski gear ect, hanging on the deck and make a comment such as "must be cold without ski clothes on", or something to that effect, and then go inside and watch them for a minute or so. More than once they notice me watching and take off. Be aware, doesn't go for only on the ski slopes.

Hopefully the thief will break their leg.

Too good for them, they shoul be

if you have the Vin# on the side-report it to all ski shops nearby and make-sure they now that if they go to adjust the binding-have you come in to look at them

Good idea!

I heard last year someplace of a group of people who were stealing skis and boards, selling them on ebay and making quite good money doing it. Fortunately, this group was caught!

Thanks for all the replies

Thanks guys for your feedback on my loss! If nothing else it feels better to share some stories and lessons with others who have had equipment stolen or need to learn from other's mistakes. As for the person who asked me what am I going to do for new boards. Well I bought a pair just like the pair that were stolen from me cause I loved em' so much. And yes, I hope the jerk breaks both legs on em'...........

P.S. I also bought a real nice ski lock...........
