I had just an hour before dark. Since I hadn't had a chance to try out my 'new to me' backcountry rig I had to get out - so a little trip bushwacking to an abandoned road and back on what's left of Wednesday's snow (about an inch of dense wet but untracked snow). Nothing to see but deer and fox tracks and a nice sunset to funish.

I can't believe its been this long since I got out on skis in local woods. Since November?!

This time a work mate and I took off across the street to a local trail and scooted around on cc skis. We really only had time to go about a half mile but found a short pitch and laps that a bunch of times. It just felt so good to be outdoors on skis while its snowing. I'd almost forgotten. The snow was just dense enough that we only bottomed out slightly. Of course we weren't really bombing it either. Just takin it easy.

What "backyard" access have you got? No need to share secret locations. Just tell what you did and how it was.

My front yard (woods) has about 400 feet of vert at probably an average 30 degree pitch until you hit the road.

House is about 800 feet above sea and the top of the hill (back yard / woods) is just under 1200'

Plenty of access, plenty of potentially good runs, some steeps

But I am too lazy to ski it.

Anyone got a cheap Poma lift for sale?

I've been scouting out areas the past couple years when I'm out Hunting. I've got a couple possibilities but no consistent pitch. bdfreetuna, that sounds like a perfect set-up! If the snow is there. Park a car on the road and skit it from the house!

Sounds so sweet! I'll admit 400 ft is a lot to climb ..... but it would be sooo worth it. Is it open enough for a jump? You certainly don't have to ski the entire pitch to have a blast.

Hunting sounds like a great way to scout. Stacy Ratchdorf of Meathead fame scouts while out surveying. He claims to have found dozens of spots.
