Lynn, city of sin. I like how there are real estate adds all over the article. Check out this nice house and the schools are good too . . .

I've never really understood why Lynn is so depressed. It has a great location on the water so close to Boston, yet it's a total dump. Drive two miles up the road and swampscott is fantastic. I think someday Lynn is going to turn around.

Not all of Lynn is a dump. The neighbourhood I live in now most homes are worth over $500,000. Plenty are worth almost 1M.

Yeah there are some bad sections, but most of Lynn really isn't that bad. It's no Swampscott in terms of crime rates, but I would way rather live and go to school in Lynn then any one of these "yuppy" towns around us.

I lived down in Nahant for almost a year and went to Lynn for pretty much everything. Funny how the Nahant cops would just sit at the end of the causeway and check out every car that came through. Nahant is probably the most white bread community I've ever lived in, like a different world compared to Lynn.

I personally despise the whole area, except for the suprisingly good mountain biking and some pretty good neighborhood restaurants. Driving around really sucks, even the cops drive like morons. I never could figure out what that smell was.

Right on actually parts of Lynn are real nice. Seems like the west side of town near Lynn woods is safe and nice. Revere is crappier than Lynn I think.

The whole North Shore in general is really kinda schizophrenic. Gloucester, Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Lynn......I've never been to a place with such HUGE wealth and HUGE poverty all wrapped into one.

Granted you do have some white bread communities like Nahant and Manchester where everything is big money. Just kind of a weird overall part of the state.

I used to feel the same way about 'yuppy' towns, but have grown much less tolerant over time regarding high crime areas. No one would think of Portland as an unsafe place, but in my two years living where I do there have been two shootings within a block of my place, which also happens to be within a block of the local High School. Between that and the prostitution, nightly street violence and shady drug deals I see every day on the street corner....I'm out, no thanks.

I'd rather be in a lower crime area even if it means having to tolerate 'yuppies'
