Threw this out on CF. Riding out of the soccer fields tomorrow morning at 7:30. Looking for a possible moderately paced tour as I am not familiar with the area. I've been riding loops out of Scoville and Stone and I'd like to see how they link up. 2 hr or so time frame.

Exploring the Soccer Fields

Welcome aboard, Jim.

The soccer fields are basically a plateau - where you park and enter - and some steep sides. There are about 2 miles of newbie trails on the plateau that wind back and forth east to west. They are bordered on the east by the "Blue with purple dot" trail and on the west by the "Blue with white dot" trail. In the center is the "Blue" (no dot) trail. If you get lost, these trails will get you out to a paved road eventually. Many riders go in to the Blue / white trail, ride it until it hits the Blue and ride back on either the blue or the M-Fer until it turns into the Blue / purple. There's a better way.

Suggest: park at the green gate and go straight in. Take the first right and follow it to the Blue trail. Go left on the blue until it forks in a dense and heavily canopied area. Take the right fork for 30 feet and then sharp right onto Blue w/ purple dot. Follow this trail out to Punch Brook Road next to the hatchery ponds. Cross and stay on blue /purple dot. When marked trail goes right (into swamp) go straight instead. Take right fork on steep incline and trail dumps onto unpaved G. Washington Turnpike. Go right and take left once over brook. Stay on this (it becomes the Blue trail shortly) and follow the blue up to the parking lot on Stone. This is about 5 miles and one hour. Do the Stone stuff, circle back to parking lot, retrace blue trail to unpaved G. Washington, take a left on it to the pavement and soccer fields will be on your right. Cross back to car. 10 miles, two hours.

Good luck. Try to go with someone who knows the shortcuts / bypasses if you can - they increase the fun factor of this ride significantly.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been keeping an eye on some of these threads and look forward to riding with fellow AZ'ers. Thanks to Mark for the directions. We rode together on Stone Road East a while back with Derek and Mark. I found the green gate (I think, it was at the end of a road). I parked at the fields and went in at the back side. Got to Stone pretty quick and rode there for a while. On the way back to the fields, I got lost (not unusual) and ended up on the GW, not far from the fields. Kinda lame ride as my contacts tore and I ended up with the glasses, which proceeded to fog up and make my vision quite blurry but at least I was riding..

Jim of a 1000 dabs

Now I remember!

We'll get a ride together in there when I get back from vacation.

Are you still Jim of a 1000 dabs? I loved that name, since it kinda describes my riding.

Look forward to it Mark. Riding more - dabbing less but still an issue on the more extensive rock gardens.

Post up when you get back.

Jim
