Here's a pretty sweet camera deal I found that I'm really tempted to jump on.

Canon PowerShot SD790IS Digital ELPH Camera $103.99 w/MIR
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21786480-Canon-PowerShot-SD790IS-Digital-ELPH-Camera-10399-wMIR

root thats the same camera i have been using this season. if i end up going with you on sunday ill bring it so you can play with it. i really like it its the perfect size and soon the will have the hack so you can shoot in raw with it.

I've got this camera, too. It's really great, solidy built, and produces pretty good results (as with any compact pocket camera, though, you've got to appreciate it has its limits).

Wide angle would be nice for nature shots, though. At the time, the Canon SD870is was too bulky. Don't know about its replacement (the 880).

Lot of new cameras have a stitch assist in leiu of a wide angle/panoramic feature... from what I've seen seems to work fairly well...

I have a Cannon SD600 from a few years ago and have had no problems with it and takes a good picture. The only thing I wish it had was image stabilization which I think most cameras come with now.

Hey camera guru's....

What do you think about the Kodak M1033 vs Canon SD790? Staples has the Kodak on sale for $130.

later we can pair them up against the ShamWow.

I don't know anything about the Kodak model you're asking about, but, as a general matter, my opinion is that Canon makes very good cameras across their product line and it's probably worth the extra coin to go Canon. Canon colors are, to my eye, the best.

I actually got a new camera (arrived today!) that I'm hoping to take skiing, once I get the hang of it. Used to have a Canon 20D (DSLR) and had to sell it last year because we needed the money. Was able to score a 10D body used on the Canon photography forums for $220 including shipping (not much more than I paid for my P&S). So... since it wasn't too spendy, I'm going to try bringing it skiing...and hope I don't fall on it!

Make sure you bring it next time so you can test it out on me, then I can have a cool avatar pic of myself.

I don't know how great the photos will be from behind, but I'll do my best. ;)

I need a neck strap first... and I guess I'll have to forgo jumping when I bring it.

Canon is releasing the PowerShot SX1 IS in April. If you can cope with 1.3 pounds and 5" x 3.5" x 3.5", it's quite the feature set for a $600 MSRP camera.

* 10 megapixel with 4 frames per second continuous shooting
* 20x optical zoom equivalent of 28mm - 560mm
* 1920x1080 high definition video with an HDMI connector to watch it on a high def TV
* A fairly fast lens. f/2.8 pulled back to wide angle

You get most of the feature set of a premium DSLR. You get a real lens and an optical viewfinder on a high def camcorder. The street price should be sub-$500 in 6 months.

just another angle on this. if your looking for a good rough and tumble, small enough to carry, waterproof to 75 ft, and takes decent avi video, i would reccomend the ECOSHOT SL321. great little camera that takes a beating and you can usa it at the beach for snorkeling or diving. 6.0 mp, shockproof tested from 6 ft, fullt rubered armored. pretty cool. the bundle is about $185. picture deep in mexico.
