planning a trip to New Zealand this January (I know off season) a d I wood like to get least o e run in, any ideas

As you mentioned, it will be summer there so no resort will be open and you won't find snow unless you're on a glacier or in Mt Cook National Park. You could always contact a guide and try to find some turns at higher altitudes but there's so much fun stuff to do in NZ other than trying to make bad ski turns in the off season.
