High Country Sports in Livingston has given me good service when I've gone there. Both HC and Summit should be able to get your board tuned in time, just let them know when you need it by.

I'd also recommend Four Seasons Ski on Rt 22 in Green Brook.

I've heard good things about Pelican on Rt 10 in Morris Plains but it's way out of the way. There's also Colorado Ski in New Providence, I've never been there and it looks like a really small place.

I always either tune the skis myself or if I need a base grind, I typically get it done near the mountains. Other choices in NJ would be Ski Barn which can be found in Wayne, Princeton, or Paramous..

Never got work done at High Country, but do like the store.

I've had good experiences at McAfee Ski and Sport, Heino's in Wayne and Ski Barn, both Paramus and Wayne.

Pelican is a decent shop, you would probably be fine there. Sports People is very good, but expensive. I would strongly discourage using Summit Ski & Sport. Last year they completely ruined a pair of mogul skis I brought to them for mounting+tune. They did eventually get me a replacement pair for free, but it took awhile and I had to stay on top of them.

In fact, I think the lesson I learned from that experience is to avoid using NJ-area shops if at all possible.

Ski barn in princeton, er, Lawrenceville.... but seems a bit expensive...

Why not just by the tool and do it self?

I worked at High Country for several years, and I can attest that the people doing the work actually care. I made less working there than I would have made elsewhere but did it because I liked the shop. The same can not be said for the people I knew who worked at Pelican.

I think HC's prices went up recently so I don't know what they are, but they will do you right.

Heinos also does some good work. I obviously never took my gear there but I had a friend who worked there and he was just as serious about it as I was.

Heinos is hit or miss, depending on who does your service. I have experienced good and bad.

Sports People in Far Hills.

I used to go there back in the 90s....

Whats the guys name that owns that place - Steve?

I took a Gotex jacket into the bathroom there once and he let me run water over it to check the waterproofness...

Yeah, he is a good guy. Always patient and honest. Just wish prices weren't always 5-10% more than other Jersey shops...because it is right down the street from me.

McAfee Ski i was thinking about but im not going to have time to get up there. most likely i will have to go to summit as they are the closest. i will have to give them call. today. i mean there is out of bounds in scotch plains but i really dont trust them.

You get what you pay for. Think about the cost of fuel to go Ski Barn or Heino's.

I agree and understand. Which is why I'll buy gloves or long underwear from Sports People, but not a pair of skis or boots. Tuning, I find their work to be good, but they also tend to need a lot of turnaround time. I have had much better luck with overall product and speed for tunes and such from shops closer to mountains. Also, my experience with Summit has me gun-shy, i think.
