From that Yahoo weather story -

"The return of El Nino is making it hard for forecasters to hazard a guess for much of the country, meteorologists said on Wednesday....If El Nino remains weak, the Northeast, in particular, should brace for a colder-than-normal winter, NOAA said....El Nino last appeared from May 2002 through March 2003".

Q: Didn't it snow a lot in New England 2 years ago.....??

Year before last it snowed a lot early. As I recall it didn't snow all that much after we got into January.

On last night's news, I heard that New England weather this winter may be more dependent on something called the "North Atlantic Oscillation" which can only be predicted out a few weeks at best.

In any case, I usually go by the saying "if you don't like the weather in New England, wait an hour...it'll change" :)

The year before last was the year of the Christmas Blizzard and the Presidents Day Storm. Yes, it went to a screeching halt after February, but that was a hell of a winter for ski areas.

Yes 2yrs ago winter started early in Northern MA when we got a 5" dumping on 10/23 followed by a devastating ice storm on 11/2 followed by a deep freeze. From that point on winter never left until April the reason I rememeber this is because I had to do my fall yard work in April becasue we had snow cover from Oct-Apr that year. Here's hoping for an 02-03 repeat.
