I'd keep your mind open and as someone else said...do some walking around. If you see something that interests you be spontaneous and do it. We did this on a recent trip to Boston and it was great!

Also, don't rule out a visit to Broadway...it is so different and actually pretty exciting when you are right there and seeing it live.

Well, our plans have changed a bit. We were going to travel down with another couple who was engaged, but just learned that they broke up  So it's just Ms. TB and I. That means that innocent, backwoods Trailboss is going to be flying solo in Manhattan. PM if you are in the area and want to meet the real McCoy.

Westchester County, NY and a Mountain near you!
Boss, I lived in Manhattan for quite some time. This is a perfect time of year, the weather looks to be cooperating for you as well. Goto Central park for a walk/blade/bike ride. The blossom trees are probably in bloom and Central Park is truly one of nyc treasures.

A b'way show. You can try TKTS for discount tix day of the show. I'd goto the village or soho for dinner/drinks/music in the evenings. PM if you want more specific recommenations. (ie. restaurants etc.)

Go see Avcenue Q or Spamalot.. Good shows..
Check out any of the Heartland Brew Pubs... Good foo and good eats!
In chinatown hit WoHops(downstairs)..
Empire State Building is awesome at night...

Be respectful at the WTC site... (as metioned) - afterwords walk over to the Battery.. Check out the bronze globe that used to sit between the towers...
Afterwords walk over to Johns Street Pub.. It's on the way back to the Seaport kinda..

Can anyone make it in tomorrow afternoon?

I just can't make it...tomorrow is the start of the dreaded yardwork season and my lawn needs a good mowing.

Why do I hate summer? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Winter: ski my ass off every weekend and any weekday possible.

Summer: Sit on a lawnmower, move rocks, dig holes, plant stuff, and a million other laborious tasks.

Questions?

Statue of Liberty is an icon, I'd check that out.
You may want to save the time and money. The statue has been closed permanently. You can visit Liberty Island, and there is a nice Museum in the pedastal, but you can no longer climb stairs in the statue to the crown. Plus you have to go through security.

For a great view of the statue, the harbour, and the Manhattan skyline take a roundtrip on the Staten Island ferry. It's free

Also check out the Grand Central Terminal self guided walking tour

Wikipedia has lots of good NYC info

But If you enjoy the weird and offbeat check out http://www.forgotten-ny.com/

I am working in the city this weekend, and would be up for an AZ lunch.

I should add that you won't be too far from some good pizza either. There is Lombardi's just north of LIttle Italy on Spring St. between Mulberry and Mott. That's the only one of the real famous ones I have been too, and is very good. There is also Grimaldi's in Brooklyn just over the Brooklyn Bridge, Arturo's on Houston St., and John's on Bleeker St., which are all not too far from where you are going to be. If you try John's, be sure it's the one on Bleeker (I think there are numerous pizza places called "John's," one of which is the famous one).

TB - I have always wanted to do the Circle Line cruises around Manhattan. The Zephyr is only an hour and the perspective form the water looks tremendous. You get to see all the major buildings and a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty (avoiding the weekend lines). Years ago I did the SF Bay cruise (which was terrific) and I always thought the Manhattan Circle Line looked like a lot of fun.

Lower Manhattan down by Wall St, WTC and Seaport is also fun to just walk around the narrow streets. It's sort of like Boston, only 20 times larger.

Oh I think we need to throw down Marc ;) . I'm all about Miriam's, a roach coach on 47th and 6th (South-West Corner)

Pffffffffffffffffft! You can't mow 3 acres with no stinking push mower.

At least the stupid riding mower has a beer holder.

With all the walking he did today, he will need that food ;)

Brooklyn Bridge, Washington Square park, Empire State Building, Madison Square park, Gramercy park, Union Square complete with Antiwar rally, Bryant Park & the NYC Library, Grand Central Station, Times Square, Rockefeller Plaza, Saint Patricks Cathedral, Tiffany's, Plaza Hotel, Central Park, Columbus Circle and that's when I waved goodbye as BeanoNYC led him onto the subway to the village for some nightlife with Miss Trailboss on Bleeker & MacDougal.

A very nice day with some very nice people.
