Trip Report:

While Greg and company basked in the glory of MRG i managed a day trip to okemo today. got some coupons to burn and hadnt been there in a couple of years. First run was down Black Hole at jackson gore. decently steep and tightish glade. shocked that it was as much fun as it was. real short though so my buddy suggested we try supernova, which while not as steep was much longer. Great run. A blast. hit that twice and moved on to look for some bumps. Punchline had been recently seeded and had little bumplets on it. Fun to blast through but still not mature bumps. Hit that again and outrage. that was more the okemo glade i had expected. not many trees and pretty scraped. then we found blackout. sick soft bumps with perfect spacing. unreal. hero bumps and perfect ones. hit that a few times and callled it a day. there were some other runs in there, some groomers, but truth be told there wasnt anything else worth mentioning. I had a blast today even if it isnt all that steep. Blackout and supernova were worth the trip alone.

video cooking now on youtube.

heres a pic of blackout. doesnt nearly do justice to how sweet these were.

Black Out is a great pitch for a bump run. When I first stated skiing there around age 10, Black Out was the major bump run at the mountain. Then for whatever reason it switched to Sels, and they started grooming the hell out of Black Out.. I think at the time they also through in a coin op nastar course at the bottome.

I loved Sel's, but Blackout is the better bump pitch, especially because it's straight. Loved Sel's, but because of the way it bended, it was rare to find a line you could ski all the way down.

For the same reason, I alwasy wondered why they had Upper Chief as a bump run and Nor'Easter groomed flat. Shoulda been the opposite

I have no idea what they bump up today, but I'm glad to see blackout is back in the fold. What makes it so perfect is that 2/3rds of the trail pretty much equals competition length. I used to lap that Black triple 40 times a day as a kid skiing Sels and would get pissed because the bottom was all terrain park and no more bumps. I practically begged the mountain managers to switch over to black out. Glad they finally listened to someone.

blackout was super nice. My only regret is that i didnt find it sooner. Sels had been mowed the night before ironically. Ski patroller told me they didnt like the way it had setup.

And i wish the lift over blackout was running. wouldve saved unneccessary trips to the top just to ski blackout. i can see why you used to lap it.

Glad to hear you had fun, 2knees. What a great day on Friday to be out on skis anywhere in Vermont!

I had a blast today even if it isnt all that steep.

That is usually my experience at Okemo as well. While not super challenging, you usually always have one hell of a fun day. Plus, its location makes it a good day trip option.

Real nice vid. What runs are those woods shots taken in? Looks like fun.

I like that line starting at about 3:45 (of your video). A little blue sky showing. You were ripping it all the way down. Nice!

Sweet!

Nice job on the vid! Looks like an awesome day. So OkeMoguls are legit and fun! That's good to hear. Hope to make a visit up there this season. Plus that cover in the woods at Okemo is encouraging when thinking about the cover at Magic. I hear the Okemo woods are pretty good because nobody considers the place for trees so they don't see that much traffic. Who's your buddy? He's got skills too.

My co-worker, Chris. Known him for years but its tough to get him to come out. He usually just skis with his family. good guy, fun to ski with.

Cover in the woods was better then on the natural only regular trails. Well the cover in supernova anyway. the glades we hit on south peak, which are more like twilight zone (in so far as the number of trees, not steepness) had much more ice and real hardpack.

Looks like it was a pretty sweet day. I'm pissed that I couldn't drag my sorry ass out of bed early enough to make it up there. I would have had to leave there at like 1:00 so I had a pretty narrow window to get some skiing in. By the time I got up and ready I wouldn't have gotten there till about 10:00, I just couldn't justify driving 6 hours to ski for 3. So I went to work instead and suffered ALL day..
