Striving to maintain my contrarian perspective, I was toying with going Okemo (this) midweek before the target demographic settles in there. Truth be told, last time I was there they still had Poma lifts turning. So, it will be a "new" resort, I'm sure. I'll gonna miss those paths through the woods they called "trails."

Anyways, Okemo has the nerve to charge full fare this early in the season, even with a very limited number of runs. After reviewing their current trail map, I think Okemo has the corner on marketing "trails". They just announced they "dropped ropes" on five of these trails that look to be no more than cutovers.

Anyways, anyone been there recently who could comment on this esteemed resort? I can make my fun anywheres, but I might wait till midseason when they get more "trails" open. For $69... gag, gasp, akk......

You can expect lots of mid pitched runs with nice grooming and snow.
I heard there is a promo where you can get vouchers for $ off from Harpoon beer. I would not go there for full price.

Without question the least challengeing major resort I have every been to. Doesn't mean its bad, just not the ideal choice for an expert skier.

I can have fun anywhere, any conditions. Doesn't take a lot, as long as I'm slidin... I get bored easily with resorts and like to wander around. Besides, I can go visit some friends who live nearby after "work"...

Bill, like you I enjoy wandering around and also never pay full price to ski Okemo or any other resort. Discount tickets for Okemo can be had via ski clubs or buying a comp ticket from people who watch gates at events.

Early season Okemo does a good job making snow and recovering from thaw and refreeze events. Weekends at Okemo can get very crowded especially over the holidays.

If you have been to Sunapee, Okemo has similar trail 'vibe', though the runs are longer. Unlike Sunapee you can't park next to the lodge or trails unless you 'get lost' and park in a condo complex. A few runs actually go through housing development that seem more like Wellsley, MA or Larchmont, NY than VT.

Every Thursday this month only $39.00 at Okemo. Check out their Web-site under Steals and Deals. I too have $39.00 coupons good til' Christmas mid-week and one that's good in January, mid-week. If anyone wants them PM me.

I've had some fun days at Okemo. Almost all of them were in the rain, too. It was back when I was working at Bear Creek. If they closed down due to rain , we'd head over to Okemo, they'd give us a radio and make us ski together. It never struck me as having especially great terrain, but the snowmaking and grooming always were first rate.

I wouldn't pay full boat there (not that I would anywhere, if I had the choice), but it is what it is. Sounds like there are better early season choices.
