Trip Report: Took my son to Okemo for the day. Was hoping to catch a high-30's sunny day as NOAA predicted but it didn't work out that way. Arrived around 9:00 to a full upper lot at the main lodge. Ended up parking in the lower blue lot and grabbing the bus back up to the main lodge. i had to stop by mountain services to get my ski sundown pass holder discount otherwise i would have parked at Jackson Gore.
The lodge was crowded but i'd seen worse. booted up and hit the new conveyor belt lift. it was anti-climatic, odd but no big deal. Boarding was simple, getting off on the conveyor was also fine but for a beginner lift i would think the offloading belt would cause problems for people.
The sun poked in and out most of the morning. The snow was firm and a sharp set of edges was the call of the day (mine weren't sharp enough). Skied a few runs down to the solitude lodge and then worked over to Jackson Gore. Nothing skied great. very firm and icy all morning long.
We worked back over to the south face in hopes of finding some softer snow and found it. Not great spring-like conditions but considering it was mostly cloudy the little sun that did get through did a decent job of softening up the hard pack. Skied a bunch of runs on the south face, Stump Jumper gets best trail of the day. Some bumps started to crop up and the snow was pretty good.
Took a late lunch break and then skied back towards solitude. Conditions had gotten worse, everything was well scraped off by mid-afternoon.
Sel's Choice and The Plunge were listed as having moguls so i took a run down each. SC was too frozen for me, i couldn't deal with it. The Plunge was a bit softer and i found a decent line.
Overall a mediocre day. The weather has been rough on SVT, despite Okemo's legendary snowmaking and grooming.
shot some video but having trouble getting it off my new camera.. need to RTFM. I'll post it later if it came out any good.
