I have a friend who works at Okemo who tells me that Okemo has pushed there opening date back to at least November 12 with more likely the 19th or even Thanksgiving.

I don't understand why they hyped an early opening so much only to look so foolish now.

Doubt it. Snow is forecasted for Friday Night. Weird how the Killington empire falls the same year as the Yankees. I think Okemo will open next weekend.

Marketing Rule #1 - Get Your Name out There.

Only the dedicated skier is paying attention to early openings or late season closings...all other's are unconcerned...tsk, tsk, tsk.

I'm chomping at the bit to go make some pretty turns, safely...
and unfortunately it looks like it's going to be mid-to-late November just before Thanksgiving....

Last year I skied there on the 15th. We've got to be careful about blaming the hills for opening dates this year -- face it, there hasn't been any weather to allow for sustained snowmaking. Fortunately, a pattern change is setting up -- hang in there.

Your not kidding about the weather. It's on average bout 10 degrees warmer so far this fall than it was last year. Don't blame the mountain until the weather even gives them a chance.

Actually this fall has been colder than normal. According to the records kept for Rutland, October so far has had an average temperature of 0.9F
below normal. You can view this information by going to www.accuweather.com and enter the rutland/killington zip code of 05751.
When the weather forecast comes on, click on averages and records to view the October weather thus far. Even so it has not been cold enough for snowmaking most of the time. A pattern change looks to be comming late next week, but I think it will be to late for skiing next weekend

TOLD YOU OKEMO IS PUSHING BACK! Opening is now the 12th, but my source still says Thanksgiving and from the look of the weather models, although it will cool down this weekend, another warmup is coming so maybe after thanksgiving is more likely.
