I just noticed something......Space Walk was a Blue in 1992, now it's a double black in 2012? Did it get significantly steeper in 20 years?

It's pretty much flat, a beginner could ski it (if they could get to it). It's also completely pointless and should be removed from the map. As I said before, it existed to make getting to the DF Quad from Wildfire and OL possible without hiking. The DF Quad doesn't exist, the trail serves no purpose.

Killington is the biggest baddest ski area west of the Mississippi River. It has the longest vertical, highest lift serviced elevation, longest season, earliest opening, last closing, steepest longest mogul slope in the universe and the most extensive and powerful snowmaking system ever and they use it whenever they can.

This was basically all true in 1992. Not sure any of it is true now except the highest lift serviced elevation.

I believe Whiteface is higher 4386' vs Killington 4241'

I think they moved Killington east of the Mississippi River sometime in 1997...

Exactly my thoughts on this one. The 80's and even the 90's were still a time when skiing was fairly inexpensive and no one else could offer the same allure of a massive resort like Killington. 20-30 years later, given economic conditions, insurance prices, other expanded ski areas, you have a mountain that has gone hand over fist to shed itself of any additional expenses (ie underutilized terrain, lift hours, etc) as possible.

New owners have made some solid changes. For me it's not the same place as it was when I could ski down to the bottom of Northeast Passage on Route 100 or ski the top of Ram's Head. Call me nostalgic, but that's how I grew up skiing. I know they have decades of under-investment and neglect to deal with.

I lived last summer up at Killington and did a lot of hiking around the mountain in the evenings. It is surprising how much has been lost and how much snowmaking line, lift components, equipment, and other things are just strewn out in the woods. It is really sad. It is almost as if they got too big. ASC really killed it and the current folks are, in addition to fixing everything, cleaning up all the mess that was left behind.

I think they changed it to keep insecure skiers away from there, since it crosses Outer Limits. It's the same reason why Launch Pad is blue, even though it is a nearly-flat traverse.
