Yeah, thank goodness they don't have to go to one of your free clinics. :D Hey, has the Canadian team mananaged to engineer a more aerodynamic tutu for their ski racers?

Because the latter 2 never arrive within 2 seconds of the winner in actual races...which might as well be 2 hours because it puts them out of the same league as those who come away week after week with hardware.

Things ALMOST as strange have happend....but I wouldn't be calling that one in to Tocchet

FWIW, Marco Sullivan managed a 10th place finish (maybe even 9th, memory is fuzzy) in 2002 at Snowbasin. I had never heard of the guy. Anything is possible, I guess....

close - less than 1.5 seconds behind....but your point is taken...

That's a fairly short course and I think doesn't have much of a gliding challenge? I'm just working off memory of seeing maybe 1 race on tape of it...never been there. Gliding is what seperates the cream out and courses lacking extended flats tend to lend themselves more to flukey results. I really admire your memory though...you were next to spot on there 8)

Much of the skiers gliding prowess can be attributed to their ski techs...

Also true... partially...you should have said equipment techs. You could have the fastest skis in the race but if your boots arn't dialed in to help you ride a flat ski you might as well have rentals..lol. Also, in order to get the best techs you have to be the best skier to begin with...an evil catch 22. Tech's are only 1/3 though....actual physical shape of the skier (dimentional/weight and also strength) another 1/3 and technique (ability to read terrain and ride a flat ski) 1/3.

also helps that I was there! :)

I do remember being rather shocked that this American who none of us had ever heard of snuck into the top 10 at the tail end of the race. It's usually so beat up by then, it's tough when you're at the back of the pack. However, it was frickin cold that day, so the course may have held up fairly well throughout the race.
