You should know better then starting a snowboarder vs skier pissing match... It's a "pandora's box"
I was wondering when you would comment...

I'd for one would like to call the urinating match off.

The problem at Sunapee is that there are a lot of less experienced folks there who seem to get spooked when they see a bit of a ledge. The common reaction is to skid down instead of trying to actually carve some turns. Makes for nicely scraped up conditions by the afternoon...

So do I now tell you about things skiers do with two edges to annoy me?

Or are not going to go down this road? Cause i really don't...

I see a lot of two-plankers skidding sideways or in a 180 degree snowplow on those ledges, too. Part of the reason I avoid the main face at Sunapee.

If you want to fire a shot back, I likely deserve it...but I'd prefer that you not, mainly because I was not all that serious about my comment and because I don't want this thread to become yet another skier vs. snowboarder argument. :argue:

Technically, it's four edges.
Just sayin'

Exactly... But sometimes it's not about the source.. It's about the pileing on.. :)

As long as the piles are soft and edgeable, then it's all fun.

Sorry...thought I was having a Marc moment there.

Nice segue...except I didn't like the mention of the "s" word in February.

Back on topic, IMO Sunapee is a great place to go if you want good conditions in marginal weather but don't need (or want) a more hardcore experience.

Now, about the ticket prices... :x

I'm still pissed at Sunapee over the hike in ticket prices. It's driven us away from going there- coupled with crappy snow/weatehr, $116 to ski for a day is hard to justify.

OK, as someone who is a passholder at Sunapee/Cannon/Gunstock and Burke, I will say that Sunapee is just OK in my book. It has proven to be a great place to get some turns, but I don't really yearn to ski there if you know what I mean...

Pros:

*Great snowmaking and grooming (especially for this season).
*Great views.
*Great service from lifties up.
*Great, "I'm tired and want some easy cruising" stuff.
*One word: Sunbowl
*North Peak is nice, but a bit small.

Cons:

*No variety in terrain. Skis smaller than the map indicates (only four real ways down from HSQ to main lodge).
*Too crowded with people who can't ski. Some rude clientele who trash the lodges.
*No expert stuff.
*Excessive ticket pricing for what they offer. We are only there because we got discounted student passes, but regular passes are way too expensive in a market that is dropping prices.

You forgot a con... "Sunbowl Quuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaddddd"... although I guess it's good if you need a nap.

As far as the crowds and prices go, I guess my feelings on that are well known. This was my "home mountain" back in the 80's when you could get your ticket from the machine at the Hooksett drink'n'drive and just pull up to the snow and ski in peace. Yes, the conditions were often marginal, the lifts were slow and the lodge was like something out of the USSR, but no one cared. I shudder every time I hear talk of a similar lease arrangement for Cannon.

I have no desire to go to Sunapee ever. I would much rather drive 2 additional hours each way to get to good skiing.
Sunapee is like a bigger Wachusett.

I've skiied at sunapee the last several years with my young son, all the pros and cons stated in this thread are valid to a greater or lesser extent. The bottom line is that Sunapee knows its' customer well and caters to what they want. It is a great place for families and/or novice/intermediate skiiers seeking reliable conditions and cruiser terrain. If I'm seeking more challenging terrain or less crowds, I go elsewhere.

My one trip this year has been Jan 2 and given that the natural snow in the woods was approximately 2-4" deep, the conditions were great considering...

Would I prefer to go to Cannon or Wildcat or Sugarbush or MRG - yup!

Sunbowl Quad: not a bad ride. It is a bit faster now than it was. I'm used to slow rides. Just wished that there was more terrain variety back there.

I agree that the place is catering to their market...it's just that market is not mine I guess.
