...until lift-serviced skiing in the Northeast resumes (hopefully). Kind of a silly thread, I know, but it's never too early to start thinking about next season!

So....predictions? Opening dates? Any big plans? AZ event ideas? Buying a season pass? Plan to hit any new mountains? etc...

Bought my ASC and threedom. Kind of walking away from skiing for a bit. Got to work alot for 6 months or so. I'll start buying ski gear in Sept or Oct. Trips will be condsidered by me after the AZ Race team is registered again come Oct. We have a team already at Pats. PM me is you might be interested in having another team. 7 members needed for a team. Join Allskiing's trip out west Early also.

I apparently am unable to let go of the ski season as I'm still posting regarding the subject. *sigh* I worry *just a bit* that I will burn out on the sport due to this obsessive behavior. I say this only because of the simialr pattern I endured with Bass Fishing. Multiple mags, multiple rod/reel combos. Multiple tackle boxes. I don't know how (looking back) I found the time to fish so much! I went "once" last year for about 15 minutes....and I haven't wet a line yet this year. Seems too much like "work" to me. All that gear maintenance etc.

I'm content, so far, to do the yard work and home-owner chores. I'll fish later when the weather is fabulous, probably akin to packed-powder day skiing.

HOWEVER....Next year (although I have an entire summer to live before focusing on next ski season) I will have a Wachusett pass (for the 8th year?). I will be taking lessons again. I will take my family to Bretton Woods. I will race again next year @ Wa...I feel it really helped my skiing and was a huge diversion form other worldly responsibilities. Cannon and Wildcat will continue to be annual events. I will ski Sunapee next year for the first time. I will endeavor to get to SB. I will endeavor to participate in an AZ outing (make the outing @ Sunapee and I'll get two with one stone).

I will be back at Smuggs for another season. Passes don't go on sale until September so I will buy it then. I will have plenty to keep me busy this summer but my mind never wanders far from skiing. I won't buy anything until the late summer sales.

So....predictions?

There will be a sizable storm providing enough snow to ski before mid-November and Killington won't open, even for a day. We will all complain on this board, lamenting the time when Killington would strive to make the season as long as possible.

Ill be rocking my Whiteface/Gore pass again next year and I think Im going to spring for the Gunstock/Sunapee/Cannon pass instead of the threedom. Cannon is my second favorite mt in the northeast and Gunstock/Sunapee are closer than Loon and Waterville. Waterville was the only mt worth going to before anyways. Cant wait for next season although Im hoping to notch a few spring turns in Tux this weekend.

Probably another Wildcat season pass. And you bump bashers need a late season Wildcat gathering. The first weekend of april, okay?

I love skiing but I'm not overlooking the summer - I'm excited to get out and hike and bike. Life goes by too fast as it is without looking 6 months down the road.

next season? huh? i don't understand :p
ahhh, now that my season has ended, i can catch up on all these end of season and next season threads

So....predictions? Opening dates? Any big plans? AZ event ideas? Buying a season pass? Plan to hit any new mountains? etc...

Predictions: Slightly above average snow year but more importantly, fewer thaw/freeze cycles so good snow sticks around longer and builds better bases. Coastal areas will again see above average snow, but at least the mountains will pick up a little more than usual. Later start to the season than this year (I.E. no freak first snow storm on October 23rd like I had predicted last year). First "significant" snow storm (6" or more) will be November 5th. Look for me to be hitting up Jay that day :D

Opening dates: Eh, I could care less. Kmart, Bretton Woods, and Woodbury all compete for the weekend of November 10th but someone opens one or two days earlier to try to beat the pack. I won't be there and I will have already laid tracks somewhere else.

AZ event ideas: A return to Burke would be cool. It seems there are still a ton of people saying they want to get to Burke and between Trailboss and myself, we have two knowledgable tour guides. Perhaps a Burke/Jay weekend if enough folks want to do a weekend since it is a drive for many CT/NYC folks? That would be killer.

Season Pass: The decision has been made..... Jay Peak. Not my favorite mountain, shortest drive, or favorite terrain, but I decided the most important factors for my skiing has come down to maximizing powder and love of trees. Jay has the most reliable powder and trees in New England. Jay also opens sooner and stays open later than Burke and Cannon.

Plan to hit any new mountains: Smuggs, finally! This past season was supposed to be the year for Smuggs but the injury screwed up the plans. Balsams and Darmouth hopefully, for something different. Love to give the townships a rip too. My eyes are more turned towards backcountry in regards to new mountains and runs. Mansfield BC, Cannon BC, Camels Hump, Moose, etc.

My prediction is 60 days total split 20/40 between BC and lift serviced.

Agreed. I defiantly want to try Burke, and an AZ meet would be cool. Also Burke is probably the only ski area Vermont that I would actaully be allowed to go on a day trip to by myself(well maybe not but I can say that I'm going to Cannon:wink:) I will try my hardest to get to a burke gathering. I think Jay Peak one day then Burke the other would be awesome. Maybe something like Cannon friday, Burke Saturday, Jay Peak Sunday, or something like that. I couldn't make it to the Jay Peak part though.

Wow. I didn't think you would actaully get a Jay Peak pass, I remember you talking about it but I just thought it was a bunch of guff just because it was a powder day. When you're standing in a line for an hour at the tram you will be wishing you were at Cannon.;-)

i almost never ride the tram at jay. the only days i have had at jay where the lines were truly aweful were early december powder days when half the mountain wasn't open. i'll ride the red and blue chairs all day most days and be happy doing so. i can't wait for some of those epic jay wind hold days though. wind hold are two of my favorite words now.

Red and Blue Chairs? My favorate by far is the Jet chair. Its the only really consistent pitch on the mountain. That runout just kills how many laps you can do on stateside. Jet area just seems to get tracked out less and is pretty much totally gladed. Though Green Beret and Valhalla are just amazing before they get tracked out, and when the snow is good the whole face area must be awesome. The Beaver Pond area is overrated IMO, just too short and that runout takes more energy then skiing the glade it self.

My predictions for my area:

First Flakes: October 20th
First 2"+ snowfall: November 5th (riv's storm will send a few flakes south that day ;))
First 6"+ snowfall: November 25th
White Thanksgiving: Not naturally, but a cold week ending with a snowstorm
White Christmas: Yes, with no damn rain the next day like in '05
Biggest Dump: January 21st-23rd

Killington Opening Day: November 10th
Wachusett Opening Day: November 18th

Wachusett Closing Day: April 8th
Killington Closing Day: May 13th

December: Cooler than normal, snowfall about average
January: Warmer than normal, snowfall above average
February: Temps average, snowfall average
March: Cooler than normal, snowfall above average

Too busy right now for predictions, but I don'tknow how you do your math . I plan to be on snow within 4.5 months in mid november (maybe 4 months if Wildcat wants to play again). Off to paint to house
