My gf and I want to get away for this coming weekend for my birthday, obviously since nothing open in poconos, thinking new england....

Any suggestions? Anything with decent acreage/trails open? And not toooo expensive lift tickets?

Other option is in New Hamp as we have friends who live in Dover and can stay there.

Just me and her, both ski blues

Well. The closest option that is likely to be open is Hunter. However, that wouldn't be a great solution for you, since they'll have one blue run open.

Killington and SR should definitely have something open for you, maybe Mt Snow. Not sure on NH.

Hunter could be an option for you depending on what their snowmaking strategy is going to be. If they can get Belt Parkway open for the weekend this would be the closest and one of the better choices for you. Other options include Mt. Snow and Killington.

I am just wondering if it will be worth the trip up there. =P I guess as we inch closer to it, we can see. I would just hate to pay $60 a ticket to ski one trail.

Maybe there will be 3-4 trails open..but I don't see prices being much less than $60..unless you drive to Sunday River which is another 3 hours from the dirty Jersey..it's the very first real weekend of the season and right now it's all bare crowd so just be happy that you can ski..being able to ski is always worth it.

Go to Killington. Hate to be a Shill and all, but K will have the most open terrain in the east and it will be very good conditions with the cold weather forecasted through the week. Also, you cant beat the nightlife. Every business will be open for this coming weekend, with bands playing nightly. Check out the Happy Bear Motel on the access road for a good deal on lodging.

Smuggs for $28 does not seem worth it considering they don't have much of a snowmaking system..I might have to check out liftopia..

...temps looking a lot better...

This afternoon's temps took a dive and are supposed to stay there for the next week...and I'm sitting here in Bangor, much lower in elevation than either the Carrabassett Valley(Sugarloaf) or the Bethel/Mahoosics(SundayRiver) areas...
Imagine northern Vermont should be ideal...Early Chairs Rule!!!

Be interesteing to see if K or Sr has more terrain come thurs. Maybe wed depending on how it goes. K would be my choice just cause of the drive distance. My guess is Dover Nh to the River would be 2.5hours.

K town (Killington) 1 day Sugar Bush next. Drive back home south on route 7 and Hit Manchester VT. Load up at the outlets with gear for the ski season. Closest drive to NJ and They will have the most terrain open.

Check the weather and get a plan B (Hiking Biking Shopping) when your up there That last thing you want is for her to get pissed over crap skiing anthen not want to go back. This time of year it's realy a gamble.

I'd expect that there will be little difference. They both have roughly the same snowmaking capacity. They're not making snow on much of anything that's particularly steep at the moment.

Killington now tends to offer less open trails than some of the competition 3 weeks into the 24x7 snowmaking rollout schedule. They've changed the focus to get more advanced terrain going early and it takes much longer to blow enough base to open a 25 to 30 degree slope than it does to blow blue square terrain. I'll bet Okemo at Thanksgiving has more miles than Killington just like last year.

My guess at the River is Right Stuff, cascades,T2, Sunday Puch top to bottom, they call it 3 trails, Jim's whim / cut across trail, rumors are xtc and Monday morning will get some attention a well. alot of south ridge could be a go.

Lazy River is getting snow on it now, So Risky Business and Amex must be in the works soon as well. Be interesting to see how it plays out All boyne guns on lower punch and a brigade on south ridge. Really won't tax compressor output.

That being said I agree Geoff. Probably similar.

That would be my thought. Even during the ASC years, K and SR would have similar starts and Okemo would regularly have more mileage open than anyone in New England during a typical year.
