Can someone entertain me with some ideas of how to paint the top of a snowboard? I'm a skier first but ocassionally dabble with snowboarding. A friend gave me a board with a guy smoking a joint on it and I do not like it so I thought why not paint over it? Any ideas of a way to do it without making it look like crap? Thanks!

Try some of the new paint for plastic. Krylon makes it. It isn't supposed to crack. If that doesn't work, powder paint is the answer.

When my son was a teenager, he and his friends collected cool stickers(the thinner/larger the better), put them on their boards then carefully sprayed it with clear poly. Make sure ya don't spray the edges. Looked great plus the slick top surface kept the snow off. Just another option.

Are you referring to powdercoat? That'll never work. It has to be baked at around 400 degrees and it's tough coating non metals. Not to mention he probably doesn't have access to the equipment needed.

If you want some wild colors like pearls, candies, Chameleon pearls etc but don't want to break the bank check out this site. http://www.autoaircolors.com/

It's water based, easy to spray as long as you have decent guns, and it's cheap.

One easy suggestion, maybe just find a really cool decal that'll cover it. A big Alpinezone sticker will definitely give you slope cred. ;-)

I almost think you'd have to go the automotive paint route. Boards (and skis) flex quite a bit. Without some type of flex agent, the paint may crack.

Although, a rattle can is cheap...and if it flakes off, you just hit the spots with a fresh coat.

I was thinking the same thing. Acrylic Urethane is the way to go for flexibility but it can get pretty expensive. I also think no matter what you use it's not going to be as durable as the factory top coat. That's why I'd just put a decal over it.

Do you remember the "kits" they used to sell for skis back in the late 80's/early 90's? It was basically a giant sticker you'd put right over the top sheet. They looked fine for bit...but after awhile, the stickers got destroyed. But that wouldn't be a huge issue with a snowboard. I think there's a company now that does custom graphic stickers for snowboards?

If the OP does go the painting route, make sure you sand the topsheet first. That'll help the paint stick better. I know there was a thread about this on the epic forums about a month ago IIRC.
