Pants - ski vs. snowboard

I'm looking to make a new fashion statement this season and am in search of new ski pants. I've been browsing all the usual sites and for some reason seem to like the style of pants more often listed as "snowboading" as opposed to skiing. i was about to hit the "purchase now" button on a pair of snowboard pants but had a thought.

Does anyone know if snowboarding pants would likely have a narrower boot cuff/gaiter?

it is my impression that snowboarding boots are less bulky than ski boots and if the pants are designed for that i'm worried they won't fit correctly over my ski boots. my son had a pair of pants that didn't fit well over his boots and it was a royal pain in the butt every time we went out.

The only thing that I noticed last year when looking for pants were most of them were way too long on me. I ended up going with a pair of North Face(Freedom I think) because they came "short".

Only other thing I think I read some were is that ski pants are reinforced on the inside of the legs on the bottom and snowboard pants aren't.

I've worn snowboard pants for skiing before, but as Jeff mentioned the inside of the legs typically lack re-enforcement so they tear easily from ski edges. On the flip side, the knees and butt tend to have more re-enforcement, so your less likely to damage the pants there. Also, I've found board pants tend to be warmer and have more waterproofing due to the amount of time boarders sit on the sides of the slopes with their posse. :lol:

I wouldn't worry about the cuffs though, should fit over your ski boots fine.

Honestly besides the inside of the pants issue, you should be fine with snowboard pants as long as they are not that stupid looking camoflauge pattern

I've been wearing the same Burton snowboarding pants to ski in since 93, their romminess adds to their comfort and warmth. They have reinforced knees and seat which helps on cold chair rides. The cuffs are snug but workable. The inside of the cuffs are not reinforced, and I have some cuts, but nothing too bad. Ducktape is holding up fine!

I only wear snowboard pants. I hate how regular ski pants fit, they feel waaay too tight in certain places on me and I feel like they restrict my movement.

For the past 4 years I've been wearing Ride snowboard pants..I like them because they have an adjustable waist..and cargo pockets..

I ski in sweat pants... they are the only thing that I don't rip the crotch out of.

In another thread I was saying how easy the inside of the legs were torn on my pants and Hawkshot pointed out the snowboard pants aren't reinforced. It hasn't affected the functionality yet though. Even skiing in rain I stayed dry.

My last pair of pants were boarder pants. While they were warm, they didn't withstand the environment very well. I had bought a pair of Spyder pants off Backcountry 2 years ago and they were soooo baggy. I skiied in them for one day and sent them back, Horrible. Too much material flapping around.

I have a pair of Predatorwear pants now that I love, fit perfectly, good functional pockets, warm and waterproof. Only problem is they went out of business.

thats just crazy. i am lucky if i get two seasons out of my pant and jacket. i really like the stuff 686. i also have a pair pant from bonfire that are industructable.

What can I say? Burton makes good stuff! Lots of reinforced wear areas, and double and even triple stitching everywhere!

the stuff burton gave me in 92 lasted one season. granted it was a 200 plus day season
