Had a good day at Pat's to start my season. I had wanted to go on Friday, but they only had one trail that day, so I waited for today. They had maybe a little less than half of the trails officially open today. It was enough to keep me busy as I dusted off the rust. It looked like they could have had more trails open, but they just hadn't groomed them yet.

They had a smallish park open near the lodges, and the snow guns were going all day on their usual park trail, but that just has big whales at this point. They were letting people ski off the whales anyway.

It was a little chilly in the morning, probably low 20's, but with bright sun. It warmed up in the afternoon as clouds rolled in. The trails were a little frozen in the morning, but soft enough to get a good edge, and then it softened up throughout the day. Most of the lifts were ski on, with just a short line building up after lunch.

The open trails were groomed pretty good, but there was some clumped up soft snow along some of the edges that was best avoided. On my first run I felt like I'd forgotten how to ski. Found myself in the backseat and couldn't make a decent right turn. Took about three or four runs before I started to feel comfortable.

I did a lot of workouts over the summer to strengthen my legs, and I could tell today it made a big difference for me. Usually my quads are the first thing to give out, but they weren't even stressed all day and now my weakest link seems to be my feet and ankle strength. I skied from about 9:30 to 1pm, and listened to the Patriots game on the drive home.

So a good start to my season with no falls today.
