Conditions: Sunny, 30's, packed powder/granular, occasional wind gusts

Took my wife for a weekday visit to Pat's Peak today as a tune up and confidence booster before we hit the road next week for February vacation. She had a really good day and was able to ski a couple of the black diamond trails there, which was a first for her. She's really made rapid progress ever since taking a two hour private lesson at Mt. Sunapee. That was money well spent.

Conditions at Pat's were quite good today. Pretty much empty of people, we had every trail to ourselves. The snow was easy to edge since they have refreshed with snowmaking, and they also got a couple of inches of natural yesterday. Only problem today was some wind blowing up the west facing trails, especially on the boring runouts where the wind slowed us to a crawl. Twister was also a bit wind scoured, but not too bad.

Some pics:

Ah, the joys of weekday skiing. No people.

The bumps on Hurricane look a little different than last year. Looks like they left a big whale at the bottom to bump up.

Top of Twister/F.I.S. Race Trail. In the afternoon some racers were doing slalom practice on Twister.

Cyclone, probably our favorite trail today.

Looking up from the base area. Only two lifts were spinning today, which was fine since they were both ski on.

Near the base area they've put in a tubing area. Earlier in the season there was a mini-terrain park there before they had their bigger parks set up.

Nice...my one and only trip there this season was over MLK weekend, which was packed.

Keeping momentum on the runout can be a real challenge when there's a good NW wind...

The bumps on Hurricane are natural not seeded correct? They appear to be natural in the picture.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are natural bumps. They're on the large side.
