Yeah... feel bad for the guy and any player who gets the knees blown out in that manner. Haven't been a NFL fan ever since it became a quarterback league, however, IMO...rules have alot to do with it.

This isn't the year after "Spygate" when New England blew away teams but it certainly is exciting to watch this team stealing last minute victories with a lengthy injury list of pro bowlers. Just goes to show how quarterback-dominated the league is. I'm expecting an early exit from the playoffs but it would be fun to have a further string of miracle comebacks.

Given the hit and the way his legs twisted and buckled only a torn ACL was the best fans could hope for.

Gronk = Elijah Price. I heard he has not played a whole season since 2006.

Some players are like that, they get the injury bug and can't make a full season. College kids that get drafted in the first and second are usually screened out if their medicals shows this trend. IIRC some GMs thought he was a lockin for a first round but his back injury screwed up that projection, that's why he was available to the pats.

In addition,TE are like running backs, they take a pounding below the waist. Lots of hits below b/c thats they only way to take them down when they are running at full speed.

I thinkhe fights too much for that extra yard when not needed and that may be the proneness to injury.

As much as I love Gronk; if I were him I'd call it a career. Multiple back surgeries, the forearm, surgically repaired ankle, now the knee and probably several unreported concussions. The dude is going to be a cripple by the time he's 40 if he keeps playing. He's made plenty of money and I'm sure he could milk some endorsements for a few more years and maybe coach High School ball to help satisfy his passion for the game.

And those seem to find certain players more often. AP is another one.

Yup

The knee injury wasn't the result of recklessness; unlike the re-injuring of the forearm and probably how his style of play has damaged his back.

If he comes back (I think he will, even though I think he shouldn't for his own long term personal health), I think the Pats need to seriously reduce his role. Minimal run blocking assignments, even though he's one of the best run blocking tight ends in the game. Lots of decoy route running in the middle yards of the field. He should be strictly a third and short or red zone target to limit the abuse he gets. To regulate him to such a role, all the young O skill players they drafted the past three years really will need to step up.

that goes against the grain of what the belichick likes to do. for both sides of the ball, his approach has always been to hide the play.

I love watching Gronk absolutely pound into defenders to fight for extra yards, but I think this has almost worked against him. There has been a few occurrences this season where 2 or 3 defenders wrapped up Gronk and he was still able to get 3-4 more yards. You know the Browns were looking at that when they were reviewing video the week before, and realized that they would have to go low to take Gronk down.

Based on current rules and enforcement, defenders have no choice but to go low.

Any incidental helmet to helmet contact will be penalized even if the receiver has his head low ready in position to drive into the defender. The motivation is to minimize concussions but it may have increased knee injuries.
