Resort or Ski Area: Pico Mountain
Conditions: Overcast, socked in clouds at the top. Hardpack on the groomers, crust on the natural trails.
Trip Report:
Well, probably should've called an audible and stayed in Northern VT where there was no rain, but I had the DMB freebie ticket and plans of meeting a friend from Southern VT, so Pico was the place for the day.
As expected, very few people there, maybe 50 cars in the lot. I was expecting the outpost double to be closed, but was really dissappointed that the A Slope chair was closed as well. I can understand cutting costs, but they had the beginner double and the triple servicing the park open. I think it would make sense to move the park to the trail under the Golden Express, close that triple that services basically nothing and operate the A slope chair.
Groomers were fast and fun. I love Upper KA, Sunset and even 49er. I think all three are better cruising runs than you'll find at Kton. Upper Giant Killer was a crust busting punishing run, but we did it a few times. Great bumps, but couldn't let em run because of the crust. We skated up to ski Sidewinder off of the Outpost and found the same challenging crust. Summit Glade had seen a lot more traffic so the bumps were rippable in places. I absolutely love Summit Glade; think it's one of the top 10 best designed trails in the east. In general, Pico has very well designed trails. Some are wide boulevards, but there's a ton of character to a lot of the trails.

Summit Glade
Only disappointment in the day was not getting to ski A slope. It's one of my favorite trails at Pico. Anyone ever skate up to it from the bottom of Summit Glade where Bushwacker comes across??? I thought about it, but my buddy wasn't into it. Fun guy to ski with, but a bit lazy. He was bitching about the 5 minute skate up to the Outpost, so I didn't want to hear it if the skate up to A slope was considerably longer.
