A beautiful day of skiing was had today at mighty Plattekill.
A trip report in pictures.............
You knew it was going to be a great day when the booting-up view from the parking lot looked like it was plucked from the marketing pages of a ski brochure.
In fact, the sky was an abnormal shade of blue it that was so dark and deep, it looked almost purple, in a way. Gorgeous.
The view looking down on the lodge and parking lots from the top of Blockbuster. A little firm by the end of the day, but she skied well early on. I'm a little skeptical (okay, a lot skeptical) of the claim that they got 6" (and 8" or 9" in 48 hours), as it didn't seem like that much, but the conditions were very nice. Some exposed rocks and some bare spots on steeper terrain, but those really were few and far between.
The lovely girlfriend posing on Sundown. Getting better with every trip, and she loves the small, homey, family vibe of Platty.
Notice all those empty chairs? As per usual, Plattekill was delightfully non-crowded. Although I did have to "wait" on about a 45 second line once or twice today. The Horror! Somebody get me management's number so I can complain!
Admiring the view from the bar at lunch (dont judge me, sometimes it's okay to stop for lunch).
After that late lunch, and with a delicious prime rib sandwich with au jus dipping sauce on homemade rosemary bread slogging around in my stomach (my compliments to the cooks at Platty), I lapped the trail of the day, which was Plunge. Lots of protected natural snow on it, and oddly very few people skiing it. It felt like my own personal training area, as there were several runs where I was literally the only person on the entire trail. But as you can see from the picture below, the shadows finally began to cast their blanket across the trail, and I knew it was time to go.
All in all, gorgeous weather, no crowds, friendly people, nice conditions, and a fantastically enjoyable day on the mountain. Thanks Platty!
