Resort or Ski Area: Plattekill

Conditions: clear skies, week-old (but still great) natural snow

Trip Report:

Made my first trip to Plattekill today, and I loved the place. If its this good a week after a storm, I can't imagine what its like a day after. Nobody there (of course), the terrain was varied (for a small mtn) and interesting, and the snow was outstanding (especially for being a NYC day trip). Most of the runs had been groomed, but there were a few ungroomed, along with fun to be had on the sides, etc. Trees on the shaded slopes were great--plenty of fresh snow still, and much better spacing than anywhere else I've been within four hours of the city (the mtn bike trails seem to create some nice lines).

Here are some pics:

This point in the drive is when I first knew I'd like this place

Great snow, even under the chair

Plenty of fresh in the trees (which were a blast to ski, with plenty of clear lines and some rocks/stumps/creeks to keep things interesting)

Great day...hard to believe it was a quick day trip from the city...I'll definitely be back.
