Date(s) Skied: 1/6/08

Resort or Ski Area: Plattekill, NY

Conditions: Packed Powder, Powder, Rocks

Trip Report: Got to Plattekill a bit later then I wanted to, so what else is new. Had planned to meet up with MarkC, Kingslug and Korshot at the Northface Triple at 10 am. Got there just in time to boot up, get my ticket and get to the triple at 10, except I find it's really a double :) . After a few minutes MarcC shows up and we chatted and waited for the rest of the crew, after 15 min, no one showed and we took off. MarkC knows the mountain really well and showed me around a bit. We took a number of runs, forget which and then about 11:00 I notice I had a message on my phone, it was Kingslug. So we decided to wait for him at the lift. He and Mrs Slug showed up after a few minutes and we took a ride up the Sunshine Triple. From there we took Sundown, to shredded Moazzarella. This was a fast fun run, Mark declared it run of the day, couldn't argue. Sundow to face was another good one.

For me personally, this was the best day of the season thus far. Conditions weren't great, but they weren't all that bad either. This was my 5th day out and I'm finally getting my grove back.Plattekill could use another foot or two of natural cover. the snow that was there was an excellent texture and fun to ski, however, there are still a large amount of rocks popping through on some trails. I don't remember all the runs, but here's some highlights:

Nothface - Nice, a bit rocky but not too bad.

Freefall - The same.

Blockbuster - Had a large amount of rocks in areas, especially the upper half. MarkC warned us about this, but me and the Slug just had to do it. The upper part was very rocky. The lower half not as bad and quite a bit of powder.

Bumps - This has always been an enjoyable trail for me. It's very decieving in that it's a traverse and doesn't look steep, but before you know it, you pick up quite a bit of speed.

Ridge Run - Was nice, good snow most of the way, but once again, those nasty rocks did come out in parts.

Overall, not a bad day, met MarkC, cool guy. As always, was a pleasure skiing with Mr and Mrs Slug. Skied until about 2, would have gotten more runs in but the Sunshine Triple broke down and didn't feel like waiting around. Would have went down to the Northface Express, but the line there was pretty long, unheard of at Plattekill.

Must be worse up there now! Platt web site doesn't show a trail count at all. I skied Bell on Sunday - was it as foggy at Platt as it was at Bell?

Look at the pic of the day at Belleayre.com. Those woods to the right of the lift were skiable on Sunday!

No trail count because they are normally closed Monday-Thursday :) Yeah, it was foggy, but not to the point where it was much of an issue.

Once this "summer" ends and we get back to normal we'll be making the rounds at Hunter, Platt, and Bell again. Now it's time to go west.
