I was hoping central NY would get some of the Blizzard of 2010, we did not. Looked at Plattekill's website this morning, 12" overnight. I was going to leave at six to get there at opening, I rolled over and went back to sleep. I wasn't sure how much snow they got, it wasn't on their website yet. I left at eight and arrived at 10:30, the roads weren't great. That was O.K., I have a new Subaru with Blizzaks, and wanted to see how it would handle crappy conditions, quite an improvement from the 91 Accord with no name all season radials I was driving last year.

This was my first time at Plattekill, I tried to go once before, but somehow missed the exit in Oneonta. I was so far past that I decided to go to Gore instead. I had to buy a contact case and solution in order to stay overnight, I had planned a day trip to Plattekill. I had a great day, sorry no pics. They had only one chair spinning, the Sunshine triple. I don't think there was enough cover on the trails serviced by the other lift. They said it was not being run due to wind. Three trails, Upper/Lower Face, Sundown, Powder Puff. People were skiing Blockbuster, but it was being poached. I thought about making it my last run of the day, but I passed.

I would say their report of a foot was accurate. It was more like two in places. There was no crowd, maybe the wind scared them away. I was grateful since there was only one chair running. I got about 20 runs in. I like the place, nice vibe, I'm sure if everything were open, it'd be a blast after a foot dump. I will keep an eye on their weather and try to hit a Powder Daize day. It's back to Greek tomorrow, they are supposed to get up to 7" of lake effect. Might as well make hay while the sun shines, rain and 40 degree temps forecast for this weekend.

Thanks for the report Cornhead.Seems like you had a good day despite the lack of open terrain. You definitely got the feel of the "vibe". Hit up Plattekill later in the season after a good dump. You won't be disappointed.
