crud, pp, groomed, some windblown at top
Arrived late morning to blue skies and temps in the low 20s. I started skiing off the double and worked my way over to the triple, following the sunlight. However, most of the trails off the double are ungroomed, while those off the triple are groomed (perhaps a better place to warm up). The ungroomed trails consisted mostly of deep crud and packed powder, with the occasional powder stash here and there. There were no lift lines. Best runs were Twist/The Cliffs (with that big boulder you can launch off); Plunge/Giant Slalom; Pipeline ; and The Chute--all tight runs with good snow. However, there were some stones and branches along some trailsides that were obscured by the 6" they received this week, and my boards let me know it. The top of Freefall was roped off, but lower FF could be accessed off Switchback, near the sign nailed to a tree that reads "Omen 666." The moguls were more like mounds of soft crud than true moguls; moguls being born. Went off piste onto paths called "27" and "Trail or Bail," which aren't on the map. Blockbuster had huge snow mounds up the center of top like spinal vertebrae, each surrounded by a necklace of death cookies. I hope they knock those down and harvest the snow, as they were very tricky. (Unfortunately, the yellow Piston Bully parked next to the lodge deck was under repair all day.) The staff, as always, was very friendly and helpful. All in all, some very nice Catskills "soul skiing."
P.S. There is a trail called "Sundown," so you CLITS have no excuse anymore.
