I've been chistened!!!! WOW...what a day. Left Long Island at 5am, grabbed some bagles and coffes, 2 buddies in tow....the discussion once we hit the Thruway was were to set the GPS to...Hunter, Windham or Plattekill...after about 5 minutes we decided on Plattekill, none of us had ever been skiing there (been there mtn biking) so we decided that if nothing else, its always good to do some RECON everynow and then...we pull into the lot at 8:04, we are the 3rd car....the 3rd car at 8:04am..we were wondering if they were even open! We got into the logde, gearing up, us and about 4 other people and I read that the lifts turn at 8:45am (I just assumed everywhere turns at 8am) so we stretched out, had a powerbar and now were waiting with skis on at the lift for 1st chair...1st chair at 8:45am and not a sole behind us...liftie gets the radio call from Patrol and drops the rope, we load.......we unload up top start skiing down, not another sole on the lift...weird!!!
the Snow was INSANE...untraced solidt boot to thigh high all day..even at 3:30 there were untracked Pow staches everywhere....was a bluebird day, 30 degrees, sunny, soft pow, not a bit of ice to be seen....the SUGAR DADDIES were unreal, just floated thru everything, we were dropping into glade and breaking trail...once or twice I was waist deep....truly and AWESOME day! All day was ski right to the lift...UPDOWNUPDOWN!!! I couldnt believe the lack of people for such a great day and great snow...Plattekill is a true hidden gem, but only when the conditions warrent..we closed in on 28K of vert....
