This Sunday I was skiing through the gun blasts at Wawa. I loved it. My son loved it. I would never complain about them making snow during the day/weekend/whatever.

BUT,does this guy really deserve this much nasty comments? I was also skiing on and off with a couple of moms of my son's friends. They are good skiers and enjoys skiing. But after going through the gun once on a trail with relatively mild snow making, they moved off to the trails without snow making.

For them, it is just too uncomfortable to go through that crap, and I would imagine they would be pretty disappointed if the majority of the trails were such that they don't have much places to go.

Yeah, that guys language was a little colorful and tad selfish, but I can't blaim people for wanting to ski in relatively comfortable condition and feel a little bit of entitlement for the big money they are paying. There are lots of people who enjoy skiing but not as hardcore as many of us to enjoy and make the best out of whatever we have available.

I totally understand what you are saying and can see your point except when taken in the context of THIS season. Record warmth and record snowlessness has created a situation where ski areas have to blow as much snow whenever possible. If not, our season will be done by the end of february. If we had 2 months of normal weather and jiminy already had a solid base, i could see the guys point. I wouldnt agree with it, but i could understand it.

But i still think the guy was just trolling.

While the spray often freezes on my goggles --------------------------no problemo i AM SKIING and that's what is important

On the lift, remove your glove and lay a bare hand flat on one side of your goggles. Leave it there for 10 seconds then sweep the thawed ice away with your fingers. Repeat on the other side. Thank JimG. for that tip. I've been skiing for 13 years and never knew that before...

I just use the little scraper that is built into one of glove fingers..

I don't like to use anything that might scratch the lens. Seriously, try the bare hand technique. Completely clear lenses and no risk of scratching...

How much do you want to bet that this guy HATES powder days too!

- or cold days
- or cloudy days
- or windy days
- or if someone is parked in "his" parking space
- or if someone is sitting in "his" seat in the lodge

I figure this guy for the type of person that isn't happy unless he's complaining about something :)

No matter what you do, you'll never make everyone happy I guess.

Some people just like to complain.

I was at Jiminy last night and they where blowing like crazy again.

This is my favorite part of that guys post:

If they can’t make enough snow and get it groomed before the lifts open at 9:00AM then maybe they should discontinue night skiing and use that time for trail maintenance. It would give them an extra six hours to make snow and get it groomed.

It's not like Jiminy Peak is a business or anything, so they should cut out a chunk of their revenue to keep this guy happy.

No kidding! If they're anything like Sundown that would be cutting a large chunk of their revenue to make a very small number of mid-week day skiers happy... Maybe they should 'discontinue' week day operations so they can get things ready for the night session. Then they would have an extra EIGHT hours to get ready. ;)

i fully underestand the snowmaking ideas.. i feel that it makes a great base, and during a regular season i would liek to see man-made get laid down first, adn then natural on top..

Hunter makes PHENOMINAL man-made snow, can hardly tell the difference, and the covereage they are able to lay down is unsurpassed; i guess tats why they are the snowmaking capital of the world.

Jiminy this year has had some problems with their snowmaking, and im not going to lie, in not a big fan of the outcome.. From what i have heard at the mountain this year Jiminy has run into problem after problem with their snowmaking.. for starters they ran into a freeze-ups on a few pipelines causing they to make fires under the lines..

second: They are trying a new water system this year. I'm not 100% sure on all of the details of this, but i know that this season i have noticed a great deal of 'steam' or 'fog' coming out of the guns, forming a super thick cloud, that doesn't contain any snow/water particles... kinda wierd if you ask me.. Ive never seen anything like it before..

third: Jiminy's almost entire snowmaking crew is new just this season.. and from what i have heard and seen, they are facing the same learning curve as anyone, but with so much relying on snowmaking it has had a few negative effects... last week they ran into a problem, and either they ran their guns when the temps warmed up, or the air pressure wasn't high enough to mist the water into small enough droplets, but ALLL over the mountain instead of having mounds of snow, they had sheets of solid, glistening ice... NOT GOOD...

snowmaking isn't cheap either.. last figures i heard the owner of Jiminy Peak was out well over $1.75million this season from low revenue and HIGH overhead.

lets all keep out fingers crosses in hoped that Jiminy can work out the kinks in their new system and lets pray from some natural snow!!!!

I hate it when the mountain makes me share a chair ride with someone else! As a paying customer they owe it to me to let me ride single.

Snowmaking.....?

when we were up at Killington a few weeks back on one of the closed runs underneat the lift they had the Tall Permenat guns about every 50ft.. and then the smaller guns probably no more then 15ft appart up the ENTIRE run. it was quite impressive.. the whole trail was grass the first day, but 2 days later we were making sweeping carves and never feared hittting ice nor ground

In the 18 or so years I have skied at Jiminy I can't ever remember them making decent snow. For sure they have a phenomenal system, especially when it comes to output. As for what they output, I very rarely can say I've skied decent manmade there...

Maybe it was Outer Limits over at Bear? I know they opened that run open very quickly considering its pitch. That and Superstar (the trail in my picture) are getting all the love as far as snowmaking.... they are pounding them. As you can see in that shot, there is a gun roughly every 20 feet. Up higher where the HDK's are mounted, those are on too as there were splitters on the hydrants... nuts.

yeah this year their man-made on top of he other problems its EXTREMELY sticky..sometimes you'll get a good run and then when your off your adge and your bases are flat your skis will just stick to the snow, and if your out of form a yard-sale may not be far away.. I wax my skis before every trip to the mountain.. and even that doesnt help, no matter what temp- wax im using..

BUSINESS IDEA

All companies that make wax(iron on) make differnet waxes for different temps, and then generally a Universal wax.. Somebody make a wax used for MAN-MADE SNOW!! !!! EVERYONE WOULD BUY IT.. many waxes are so similar that your average skiier cannot really tell the differnence. If you created a wax that has even the same property's as your standard Universal wax, od i guess your cold temp/ hard wax and market it as "FOR USE ON MAN-MADE SNOW" you would make a killing!!

yeah the trail looked just like your picture...it could've been one o the trials you mentioned.. i was up there for 3 days, and never really get a chance to get up there and with 200+ trails.. only 80 were open when i was there i still didnt get a good grasp on trail names.
