I took Latin in high school, and in college. Hasn't been any more useful in daily life than algebra, but I'm glad I took both.

I laugh every time I see Buddy Christ.

Benedict is 78. To me it looks like they want to bridge John Paul II and a new pope to be named in a couple years. Benedict will keep the seat warm until that happens. But look for a non-European Pope the next time. I was raised Catholic but have become as cynical as Max. Religion is was you believe and not what anyone should tell you. I rarely go to church much to the chagrin of my parents but while I don't go to the Lord's house, I spend plenty of time in his backyard hiking in the woods and thinking about life in general. I don't need any church doctrine watchdog to tell me what to think out there.

Amen to that! :D
Someone once asked me what I believe in if it is not God. My response: "Myself, my wife, and my child."

Sounds like me ;)

I was born and raised in Brasil, a heavily Roman Catholic country. Down there it's sort of assumed that you are christian and crosses around your neck are pretty much commonplace.

Anyway, after seeing so many idiots and jerks who religiously go to church every sunday and then return to being the same inconsiderate people they were before, or people who feel obliged to go because you just have to... needless to say, it's real easy to get cynical about organized religion nowadays and the hypocrisy is just smack-your-face obvious.

I haven't gone to church in years and the last time I went (as a favor to my mother on x-mas) I felt very awkward and the whole experience seemed foreign to me.

But in nature and by myself I feel comfortable, at home, and grateful.

:)
