Getting this out there, if you guys could, please help support this new bill that would use one plate instead of the current two on our vehicles in MA.
I know that some of you, like myself, hate mounting front plates on your prized vehicles either due to aesthetics or drilling holes in your bumper. Thanks for your support!!

For your convenience, there is a form letter attached and the email addresses of every committee memeber.

To the Joint Transportation Committee:
I am writing to you to encourage support for S.B. 1637 which would allow us to return to a single license plate in Massachusetts.
S.B. 1637 would save the state money and resources by not having to manufacture a second plate, as well as eliminating the needless enforcement which wastes the time of our already stretched police departments.. It would also bring Massachusetts in line with other states that have already moved to a single plate requirement.
S.B. 1637 would also protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some fabricated and original bumpers. Many modern cars would also benefit from the lack of a flat-plate on the front of an otherwise aerodynamically and aesthetically curved bumper.
Finally, S.B. 1637 would also allow the state to finally eliminate the old "green" license plates that many drivers currently have. The old plates are often illegible, especially since they are no longer reflective after all these years, yet many owners continue to use them because they don't want to install a second plate. This would also help to reduce confusion and allow the state to have a single, harmonious law about license plates, instead of being the only state in the country that allows some people to use one plate while requiring others to use two.
For these and many other reasons, I encourage you to support S.B. 1637 and hope to see it become a law.

Thank you,
<your name>

For the last 12 years I have driven my car with a Euro plate on the front. And I've yet to be pulled over or cited for it. (knock on wood)

You're suppoed to have a front plate if your car is equipped for it. Pop off the front rack, or tell the dealer not to put one on, and presto, you're not equipped for it. MA and CT have the smae rules, I presume it's similar elsewhere as well.

There have been a bunch of cases in Mass where people have stolen the same model car in the same color and just put one plate on each of the cars.

With more and more states and towns using traffic cams as a way to boost ticket revenues, my guess is that even if this bill gains a bunch of support amongst the population in Mass, that either the committee chair of the committee this bill will have to come out of, or the speaker of the house or president of the senate will either find some technicality preventing it from happening, or just chose NOT to bring it to a vote in their respective legislative house :mad: :smash: :flame: Standard political BS maneuver!!
