Best part of moving is tossing crap out, finding crap you thought you lost, and not having to do any serious cleaning since they bring pros in to do that after you move. Sounds like a nice set up at the new place.

Clean the bathroom, kitchen sink, stove and the fridge. Vacume and any reasonable land lord will give your security back. Of course if there are big holes int the wall they get pissed and keep everything.

That's about it, no matter how much you clean, they still send a crew in to clean it top to bottom in most cases. Security deposits are for damage, not wear and tear.

Depends on what your original agreement was. Wear and tear would be faded paint after x number of years, or maybe a couple small stains on the carpet. Just plain not cleaning would be soap scum in the tub (and some tenants left behind what was probably a year's worth of scum :puke:), gross counters, not cleaning out the fridge.... Damage is obvious. But in some states, you can definitely charge a tenant for not cleaning as long as it's a reasonable amount.

If the guy has less than 5 apartments he does not have to give you interest on your deposit. I do but its not required. Get some oven cleaner and make sure you get a mask. That stuff takes everything off.

Depends on your state.

When we were landlords, we had to keep security deposits in separate interest-bearing accounts and give that interest to the tenant on an annual basis (so it did not accumulate in the account; we would have a bank check issued on the 1 year anniversary to give the tenant his/her interest). We owned a 3-family house and resided in one of the apartments.

Well the complex I currently live in has 82 units..I think the new one is like 150-200..

I use Kaboom for the bathtub and it rocks..

This afternoon I'm going to sign my lease and pay my security deposit/first months rent. Then one of these days my Mom and me are going to Ikea to buy new furniture and doo-dads for my new place. I'm actually looking forward to going through all my stuff and throwing out things that I have no use for anymore.
