The wife and I have booked a trip up to Quebec City for a 4 day weekend at the end of April. This won't be a skiing trip, just a get away. Neither of us have been there in our adult lives and are looking forward to exploring the city.

Any recommendations on various attractions, museums, etc?

Must hit dining?

I recognize it's not exactly the best weather time of year, but we got a great hotel deal and have the vacation time to burn.

Wish I could remember the name for you, but my wife and I went to this festive Italian restaurant 10 years ago, not far from the Chateau. There was a local curling team in there drinking, eating, and they were so infectious, the whole place became one, large party. Who knows if it's even there anymore. Great memories of the place though. (If not the name, exactly.)

Wish I could help with food & drink info deadhead, but was up a few times in last 5-6yrs for a canoe and tent(while exchange rate was good) during my curbing the appetite phase..LOL. It'll be interesting observing the size of autos up there...in comparison to us down here. Even back 5-8yrs ago. My Xterra would stick out like a sore thumb when trying to find parking close to a few stores in the city during the day. Will get a good idea of where the auto manufacturers have targeted the economical car models.
If you ever think you might wanna return by heading southward to the border of Maine(around Jackman area)...there are about of 20-30mi of farmland you'll drive(on pavement!;-)) through where owners help out the local deer herds...you'll see literally hundreds of feeding deer in more than several of the properties just off the road connecting the 1 to 2 small towns. Late April, maybe could catch some ww-rafting on the Kennebec..down around the Forks, although not sure about timetable. If you come down this way you'll see where a few of us do some touring/ATing. A lot of country at enough elevation for good snow in certain years.

Your not gonna go skiing i rented a car and did a day trip to mt st anne it was great.. One thing 90percent of the people speak french maybe more , they do speak english but they seem to hate us or just me there and will speak french on purpose. We stayed at the Auberge St Antoine very nice place. You do have to check out the Chateau Frontenac, that hotel is massive and can basically be seen from just about everywhere.. You can take the Levis Ferry along the st lawrence river for some amazing views, there are 2 pretty big museums if i remember correctly. Lots of artsy stuff everywhere. Make sure to go here http://www.quartierpetitchamplain.com/en its the oldest shopping district in north america and right behind the chateau frontenac, easy stuff to walk too. Be careful at night if your not in the immediate center of town i found a few sketchy people wandering around behind me. Make sure you have canadien money before landing the taxi driver was a total asshole and WOULD NOT accept american money to take us to the hotel.

Appreciate the tip. We'll be driving up ourselves. Wife doesn't ski, so this is more a trip for her than for me. Watch Le Massif get nailed with a 2 footer while I'm up there.

i posted some of this in another thread. Take the toboggan run in town. Go into the old building/hotel and view the ceiling art/painting its UN real. Walk around the old stone wall that surrounds the old Quebec city. The waterfalls that are on the way to Mt ST Anne are beautiful, Well marked and they are right off the main route with pull over locations.

Spent our honeymoon in QC. Really interesting and unique city. It's small enough to easily be able to walk around the Old City. Like being in old Europe. We stayed at the modern Lowe's Hotel just outside the walls, The revolving restaurant on the roof was fun. We also drove up the St Anne for all the waterfalls, during April it might be pretty spectacular. You'll have a great time. Too bad the exchange rate won't help you much.

Very cool place. Great town with the old feel atmosphere. St.anne waterfalls are great. Le Chateau Frontenac is just awesome. Stay there if you can. My wife and I went up there on a day trip from Jackman Maine on vacation one year in Sept. I'd like to go back in the winter because they have such cool things that go on. I just help cut a piece for work not long ago where they make an ice skating race course thoughout the town and these sick guys on hockey skates race through the course with people cheering them on... just madness, but it looked like a great event to see. Lots of restaurants,we went to one that was excellent but sorry can't recall the name.I'm sure you'll find a good one. Just a charming place... looking for a chateau...21 rooms but one will do!

Toboggan run is a must! That and exploring the old part of the city.

Can't remember the name, but there's a place for snow tubing, with three or four rope tows pulling you up. At the same facility there's ice skating with a frozen stream route complete with warming huts and lit at night time with torches. Mind you I'm going back 20+ years so it may not be there.
